Bizarre Question??

Okay, last night I boiled the 2 dozen eggs I've been "aging" so I could peel them cleanly for deviled eggs. These are brown eggs, mind you. After I boiled them, I was cracking and peeling them, and I noticed they all have this kind of brown stringy stuff that comes off the shell. Almost like a membrane, but very thin and kind of yucky, LOL.

Is this normal? The deviled eggs were wonderful, and are gone, and no one is ill, LOL.

Just wondering. Is it me or is this a normal thing?

Weird, never seen that - perhaps the "bloom" or whatever its called....

I have never seen that either,,,,,it was after you boiled them?

I think it is the brown coating on the egg. I did a science experiment for the kids... put an egg in vinegar and let it sit. The egg shell disolves and leaves the rest of the egg intact. Anyway, while the egg was in the vinegar all of the brown coloring came off and there was a white egg shell underneath.

Some of the brown eggs I get from my hens have brown speckles on the surface of the shell that will wash off if I scrub at them.

They are still brown eggs underneath and I don't know what the spots are just that they appear to be normal and don't cause harm the either hens or people.

Brown egg layers deposit a brown membrane over the eggs as they lay. It adds to the brown color of the egg. Isn't it interesting?

It must be the brown membrane, then. I boiled them in a lot of vinegar, hoping it would help them peel.
