Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hello everyone! I thought this would be a good thread to ask on but I've got a BCM that I'm not sure is a pullet or cockerel. I have another thread started with updated pictures from week 1 through week 8 and the most current consensus say that my BCM is a pullet. I was worried because 'she' is starting to get a few copper hackle feathers. Is 8 weeks too soon to be getting copper hackle feathers for a pullet? Feel free to check out my other thread if you want to see my 2 Blue Marans Cockerels and others :)
Definitely a pullet - small comb and wattles. RedBanks is right about eye color - eyes should color up nicely over the next couple of months. Keith

definitely pullet. By 8 wks, our BCM started practicing his voice and had defined comb/ wattles.

They haven't been trying to crow yet though :)

I like the guy that is behind the tan/grey bird in the last picture.
Well what I cans see of him anyways haha. Get some photos of that guy and maybe a few of us can help you decide.

Don't forget to visit the international black copper marans thread, we have a wonderful group of people over there.
I will update with some photos. The guy pictured above was butchered this past weekend. I found some white feathers in his wing, and breast.

I used to cull everything with a flaw/fault. The end result was I had no BCMs. I am learning to breed out the bad on a relatively good BCM. There are no perfect birds. White feathers are not a DQ in the US SOP. I put feathered legs on birds in one generation. In the past I would have thought those birds were useless. I am not interested in breeding the one time show bird. I am interested in breeding a line of good consistent BCM that lay dark eggs

Are you talking about the cockerel you posted in the last bunch of pictures?

Got my babies today. 26 BCM chics. Thank you Brian Parks in Corvallis Org. Also a special thanks to Don Lee for hooking us up. Thank you Don. Tom

How did you know which ones to get? When I looked into them. I think Brian had three different lines. I am still thinking about getting some next year. I am drooling!!! I want some!

I discussed it with Brian. We decide on 6 Bev Davis, 6 LP and 12 Brian Parks. He sent me 26 chics total. Vey healthy and happy chics. We will see what we have in about 6 months. It will be really hard to cull any of these birds. I really like the look of Brian's own chics. Nice person to deal with. Very busy with a new restaurant in Corvallis Oregon. Tom
