Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Sarahkatie, I have several, ummm, about 21 cockerals growing out right now all from single mated pairs. Just tagged some for an initial cull tonight. I have 3 from the same parents that I am really liking among many others. Biggest issue is that they are overmelanized but the pullets from the same matings are showing lovely copper around their necks where their Moms have none so I believe the genetics to be there. You are not that far from me, I will post some picks to get some feedback when they are a little older and save one or two for you if you like.

BACK: Wide at the shoulders, long, flat, slightly tilted to the rear. Slightly more inclined than that of the female.
Saddle feathers -- abundant, saddle large and slightly raised.

OBTW: Those in a position to talk to the SOP writers, I think this statement should be changed to read either ...

Slightly tilted downward to the rear
OR
Slightly tilted upward to the rear
Yes, this statement was very confusing to me because to me TILTED means going UPHILL, at least that is my first thought otherthan when something is tilted sideways....

About 4-5 week one has a bigger comb and one has copper on its wing feathers does having copper on its wing feathers mean its a boy?

here are my 2 BCMs. They're 3 weeks old, im pretty sure one is a cockerel but not sure on the other one but i'm leaning towards cockerel as well.
