Black Copper Marans discussion thread

She seems to be very a nice looking black Copper Marans, how many do you have?
Thank you! As of right now I just have two black copper, the pullet pictured and a cockerel. I also have a splash copper cockerel. I like my bcm cockerel but his coloring just hasn’t filled in yet, I’m hoping it does!

Nice, Black Copper Marans are one of my favorite chickens, I got 11 layers, age 1 to 3 yrs old and a year old rooster. This year I just hatch a few batches, ages 1 wk old to 4 month olds (Rooster), weird thing about hatching you get more roos the layers sometimes.

Rusty’s hackles have the golden halo coloring towards the bottom. Does this mean he is a Wheaton mix or just bad genetics for BCM?

I hoped someone else would answer, but I’m under the impression that it’s genetic. Nothing to do with wheaten genes.

Marans can lay some beautiful eggs but the one we had at 7-lbs was a bully and the only one who could put her in her place and not take guff from her was our 4.5-lb White Leghorn! The Marans just needed to be in a flock of equals so we re-homed her into a friend's layer flock where there were too many other assertive layer breeds keeping her bullying in check. I don't mind hens establishing a pecking order but if it gets to the point of disrupting our peaceful backyard flock, a bully needs to be handled in whatever way works.
