Black Friday Shopping 2012

I went out this year for the first time Thursday night with a friend. There wasn't all that much that I needed that was on sale, but I did pick up a Garmin Nuvi for $69, and I have been wanting one of these for a while. I also got a bunch of $2 movies. Movies are my weakness. I am ALWAYS buying them when they are on sale.

I didn't think the stores were too bad. Walmart was crowded, but they had lines set up and handed out tickets for most items. Most of the items on sale were TVs and I don't need any more TVs.

I found a lot of the early morning sales were still there during Friday later in the afternoon when I went out with my mom, but I had fun Thursday night too! It was an adventure, that's for sure!

Back in 2004 I was in Delaware .. it was black friday and i needed dog food..

At the time i was buying it at Walmart (we buy much better dog food now than we did back then). Anyway.. i figured.. "it's black friday.. I'll wait until 9 or so since all the craziness should be over by then" Sounds simple.. right?

Boy was I wrong.. got to walmart and the parking lot was packed. There were NO parking spaces. Some people were circling the lot waiting for their loved ones to come out with the carts of goodies since there were no parking spaces. They reminded me of buzzards circling a cow waiting for it to die...
Being "smart" (smart?.. i was buying dog food at Walmart on black friday...) I parked down the road a little ways figuring it was only a 40 pound bag of dog food. i could just hoist it up on my shoulder and carry it back to the car.
so I hiked up to walmart..

FINALLY managed to get inside. It was cart to cart. You could not walk around anyone. There was no room to squeeze past anyone. When I say cart to cart I mean that the person behind had their cart pressing against your backside and shoving.. which shoves you into the person in front of you and so on. I felt like we were all doing the dead man shuffle and if anyone fainted there would be no place for them to fall down!

I finally made it over to the dog food (had to follow the line of people through sporting goods.. toys.. electronics... ladies clothing and so on before I could get to the dog food. NO ONE would let me walk past them. I had people curse me when I asked if I could squeeze past them since they just knew I was after their specific bargain. Whenever I said "I just want dog food!" I was called a lair or worse! (these people were vicious.. they had the "if looks could kill" gleam in their eyes)

Once I got my bag of dog food I managed to make it over to the grocery section .,. it was deserted. I only found one poor man who was standing there in the frozen food section. his eyes were glazed and he was clutching a coffee maker to his chest muttering to himself. I felt sorry for him and went to ask him if he was ok.. he flinched and clutched his coffee maker even tighter to his chest. i'm not sure if he was in shock or just traumatized for life.. so I made a hasty retreat to the cash register. There was no one in line in front of me. all the customers were still pushing and shoving cart to cart without a foot of space between them just to get their bargains

after that I vowed to never set foot in a walmart again on a black friday. I make sure we have whatever we need in advance then just stay home all day!

I went to the feed store and the grocery store. I was suprised to see a lot of people buying food the day after T day.

I work in a grocery store what odd is the people doing their weekly shopping on thanksgiving like it wasn't a holiday, and people who are upset because we shut the store down early in the afternoon on thanksgiving because they forgot something.
