Black Minorca? Pullet? Roo?

Sometimes she looks bearded but most of the time she doesn’t.
I have hatched and raised well over 100 birds... in my experience, according to the size of HER waddles... that IS a bearded bird (bearding gene inhibits waddle size), even though it's appearance is not always the same.

Thing is... more than that... I was raised by dopers and can't stand to be lied to  so I'm ALWAYS looking for the core truth with a serious attention to detail and a hint of OCD. :hmm

Anyways... I LOVE breeding chickens and that (in my experience) is NOT a Minorca... It's not just about whether or not they are show quality, but IF they are a specific breed AT all... That bird has the wrong body type to be Minorca. In addition to the leakage of color (reminding me of Marans) that is quite obvious.

Since she ISN'T a typical EE and you say from the ornamental collection... I would confidently suspect OE. Please note some bearded birds get over groomed by their flock mates making it thinner or disappear until molt.

I really love guess the gender/breed game! :pop

And one great thing about EE and OE... is no two are exactly the same. :love

Thank you!! An OE would be awesome! I love the details and explanation!

I'm thinking pretty Olive Egger, as well. :) Perhaps Marans X Ameraucana, to be specific?

As far as gender, I'm on the fence. Could either be a cockerel who's slow to mature, or a fast-developing pullet. Could you update in another few weeks?

Definitely will! I’m really hoping a hen and more so and OE cuz I’d love that!!! But she is top of the pecking order so hopefully she’s just a dominate female and not a roo, fingers are crossed!
On second thought: MMM doesn't carry Olive Eggers. :) I'm thinking Easter Egger seems more likely in this case.

Some of my EEs have VERY dark slate/willow legs.

They do carry whiting true greens though so maybe that could be is...basically an OE but technically not ha

That is probably what it is-- it's definitely some kind of Easter egger or EE cross like Whiting TB or olive egger. The comb doesn't look very big to me. I'm pretty sure it is a pullet.

I did consider checking their site after making my suggestion... It's ALWAYS a good way to be clued in. :thumbsup

Not only do I love the guessing game... I love clue hunting AND relying on others experiences and team work to figure things out! :highfive:
