I have one 15wo black pullet from McMurray hatchery that came in a variety of hens. I've identified all but her. I'm guessing she's an australorp. She is iridescent with a green and purple sheen on her, and she's beautiful. Her facial skin/comb/wattles all are still outgrowing the black they originally were, so they all look almost purple. Her ears still have quite a bit of black, but I think what is starting to show through is pink, not white. It's hard to tell with all the black still on them. The bottoms of her feet have no yellow - they are mostly black, with a little bit of whitish color showing through. What's throwing me is her build and feathering. Her size and shape are identical to the pearl white leghorn. She's more tightly feathered than the barred plymouth rocks and wyandotte, and appears much more slight of build. Her tail is longer, like the leghorns, but her comb and wattles are still small like the barred rocks.

If she was an australorp, wouldn't she be more fluffy looking like the American breed girls? Could her earlobes be white under the black, or would they be all white by now if they were going to be white?

Hope this works, this is my first day here and I'm just guessing at how to do it!

The black doesn't show up in that picture like it does on her, and her earlobe really looks pink there! Hmmmm.... I should have looked more closely at the picture before.

I would like to know what kind she is too....I have a pullet just like her that I got with my chicks from McMurray too! It has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what kind, she came with my RIR's and some others.......

Don't black star sex-links have a bit of red in their feathering? This hen is all shiny black, no hint of any other color - except her shiny green and purple in the sun. Those pics don't do her justice, she really is a pretty hen. Just not big and fluffy like all the pics I've seen of australorp pullets.
