Black Sex Link Personality

Of my twenty chickens my favorites are my three black SLs.
Robin and Lil' Crow are quite friendly and chatty and will squat for a petting, but their sister Ester is a great big sucky baby.
She will let anyone pick her up and cuddle her and will follow you like a dog right at your heel.
We got the 3 blacks at the same time as our 3 red SLs and raised them together.
I find the reds far more aloof. They will all run up to greet but don't want to be touched.
One thing about all of them ... they are never aggressive with the other hens in the flock.
So there is one vote for the BSLs.

By design sex link chickens are easily sexed at hatching because the breeders have figured out how to have the males look completely different from the females. So I would think it impossible to have a mix up.
Hopefully if I'm wrong on this someone will correct me.

I have a Black Sex Link that I've just found out is a pullet. (Had no idea how to sex them). She is extremely friendly and loves to be cuddled. In fact, her favourite place to sit is on my shoulder. She follows me everywhere around the yard and as soon as I'm still for a moment, she hops right up with no encouragement. My granddaughter loves her and the chick will sit in her lap to be petted for ages! I have very little experience with chickens at all but I can't imagine a friendlier bird.

We have four BSL that are six months old and just starting to lay eggs, very slowly but I digress. They are friendly and playful, they were pretty aggressive with our GSL:'s that areabout four months old, but otherwise they are doing pretty good. They will let our sons pick them up and pet them, they will also follow us in the yard and they seem to try to talk to us. I would recommend them greatly, but then again they were the first ones we had so I am kind of prejudice.

I agree with you about how they follow you around and try to talk.
All three of my BSL hens are the chattiest birds in the flock.
And each one has her own distinct voice. You can tell without looking who is talking.
They really are the nicest girls in the flock.

I have several silkie/polish mutts. They are so skittish I don't really want more of them.

My girl is VERY vocal. She is constantly chirping. She's only about 3 months old so it makes me wonder how talkative she'll be when she's full grown.

The funniest thing is that she makes a noise when she's sleeping that sounds like The Three Stooges snoring...MEEmemememeeeeee. Again, new to chickens...do most of them make noise while they sleep?

I know my hens have a kinda purring noise they make when they are relaxed and content.
Sometimes when I go to lock up the coop at dusk, if I sneak up quietly I can hear some of them purring and crooning quietly.
They also make that noise when they're dug into the dirt sunbathing or when they are waiting in the nest box for their egg to be laid.
But when they want attention they can be quite loud and chatty.
