I still have a few final touches to do like putting fake flowers up, possibly one of those small waterfall units, etc. I also found a guy down in IA that has some lady gouldian finches for sale. I think I may be fixing up my old one just for a few pair of those. This guy has juveniles for only $35 each. They run well over $100 each in the pet stores. Very colorful lil birds but hard to find up here normally. I wouldn't mind a few more canaries too.
Over at my parents house, mom has lovebirds, cockatiels, and a parrotlet. OMG all of mine together don't make as much noise as even 1 of those lovebirds. I used to have 2 Amazon parrots but gave them to someone when I got pregnant. Someday I want a moluccan cockatoo and a macaw. I think there's some sort of wierd drug in the feather dander than just makes us keep getting more. Its an addiction!

Beautiful birds! I agree about something in the dander lol! Growing up I had a Sun Conure and a Blue Fronted Amazon. I would LOVE a Goffins Cockatoo someday but hubby says no. I am trying to convince him to at least a Canary but he hates the noises and says our two Siamese will tourment/kill them. We will see. At least I have my chickens!
I have barely been getting any eggs with this cold weather, and cleaned the coop, dewormed an trimmed butts yesterday so I hope I didn't piss them off enought to quit totally. If not I am oficially off hatching strike and really want to try hatching form my blacks now that I have the new roos (thanks again Amy!) and two new pullets from Aimee C. who are gorgeous too! Can't wait to see some black babies! I am so wanting chicks I may even throw in some Barred Rock X BLRW eggs from my layer pen just for fun!

Very nice!! Love the finches!! I use to have all kind of finches too. Gouldian, Cordon Bleu, Spice and etc.. I use to raise a few different types of birds years ago. I've had so many type of birds in my life.. Button quail, Cockatiels, White capped Pionus, Green cheek Conure, Doves, Parakeets, English Budgies, Love Birds, African Grey, Quaker, Military Macaw, Hahns Macaw, Hmm wondering if I missed anything LMAO..
Did you build the avairy yourself? If so, You did a great job!!
Most of it was done myself. I have to thank my brother for helping hoist the plywood up to get the ceiling in place and installing the track lighting. All it takes is a circular saw, drill, staple gun, hammer, wire snips, and a few trips to Menards for lumber, staples, screws, and paint. The door isn't quite perfectly straight, but then again the floor wasn't level either.
Its nothing fancy, but then again I'm not a carpenter either. My wish list includes those gouldians and cordon bleus. I'll have to do some research first on what is toxic, but maybe some live plants in them too.
It was gorgeous out yesterday and with snow coming again next week I figured I better get some pics taken! Here are the blacks from my breeding pen. 5 hens and 2 roosters are in there. All pure black (no splits). 2 girls are not really pictured (other than in the first pic on each side of the roos) as they are going through horrible molts!
I love black silkies too but found it hard to find good quality ones near me. My local hatchery says they have "black" chicks but the one I bought turned out to be a really dark blue. I did find one place that had nice black chicks so I got one and named her Luna. I was wondering if she will turn out to be show quality when she fills out if anyone can tell me
Agreed it is very hard to find quality silkies around me too. Usually we go for long distance breeders just to make sure we're getting good bloodlines as well (for my sake, lol) I personally never get any birds from a hatchery, just because of the quality and breeding issue but you can get lucky and get some nice birds out of them. PoultryQueen, it's hard to tell but she looks pretty good, especially for hatchery
