Black silkies

Ok I didn't get pics of the chicks yet, but here are some of the adults! I snapped these while cleaning the coops the other day!

Pictured is mr rooster, two hens (one broody), a cockerel I am growing out, and my roo again with a older chick (probably a pullet but hasn't filled out that much yet). Please excuse the droopy wings and panting, it was 94 that day

He's starting to look like his daddy! That line seems to take up to 18 months to really fill out. Can see the resemblance in the comb, feathering, size, and width especially.

Been a busy spring and this is the first time I've posted on here again since the changeover. My lil girl is now 14 months old and keeps me running non-stop. In my spare time I've been changing over all my coops from chicken wire to welded wire. I still have a few final touches to go, but the basics are done.

Before:

After: Plywood goes up 2 feet and hopefully will keep those grubby cats and their paws from snagging any more birds. There are 2 of the 10x30' pens, 2 of the 10x10' pens, and 5 of the 4x10' pens......

What a fantastic set up you have! I'd be in trouble if I had that kind of space! Hope y'all don't mind me hopping in on your thread- I technically don't have any black Silkies yet but I hope to! I have one black egg cooking in the bator currently (along with a porcelain and mystery color) and I'm REALLY hoping it hatches :) you all have beautiful birds, by the way!

I need to get new pics of my one little black Silkie girl, Misumi. She is the nicest Silkie I have, overall, with the HUGE problem that she is a crossbeak. I am so sad that she should not be used to breed...She has amazing type, gorgeous feathering...sweetest personality... GAAAAHHH...I'll post her pics tomorrow. Is crossbeak 100% genetic and transferrable to chicks, do we think? Is there any ray of hope that I *could* get normal chicks from her?

And your runs look awesome! I use welded wire on everything. I should get a smaller size for the bottoms like you have for the runs, I just have 2x1" on the runs.

How is your hatching season going? I hope well. It seems that this year was my turn for incubator failure. Just got a new one though that I will be firing up today so fingers crossed I get some more babies from him soon. I hope I am still on your waitlist if you have extras too ;) I bet your daughter is keeping you busy! My son is 7 months and he is almost crawling....so not excited for him to be mobile! LOL!

I wouldn't risk it...you may get some normal chicks but they could carry it. And it is really hard to find homes for special needs chicks, especially if you get boys. I would recommend she be a loved pet or broody...get some eggs and let her hatch for you :)
