Hi I was checking on my flock today, and noticed a few have these black spots on their combs.. We live in CA and haven't noticed any mosquitoes out yet, it can get cold at night but it doesn't seem like frost bite to me. One of the scabs looks to have a little blood around it. I didn't notice any white spots. I was thinking foul pox but more hoping she and the other hens are just a rooster favorites or low on the pecking order? The other hens don't have as many black spots. Please help, what could this be?

No worries, the hens with black spots are just low on the pecking order. I am pretty sure it is dried blood. You may want to separate the hens from the rest of the flock until the spots heal. Chickens pick at blood.
