Bleeding Egg

Ok, mine's all set with the dry paper towel and bacitracin (Neosporin without pain killer). Good luck with your chick Maikan!! I've used Sav-a-chick before. It's electrolytes for chicks. I've heard sugar water is pretty effective, too. Thank you all so much!!! I am happy she is safely out of her shell and will post a picture of her all dryed off tomorrow. Also, should I give her electrolytes now or wait until tomorrow when she's had time to rest?

Agreed move over to dry paper towels and put on corn starch then let dry. I also always put a touch of diluted Pivodine liquid on with a Q tip then corn starch once the hatch is complete to stop any possible infection in the navel area.

My chicks still about 3/4's out of its shell, its doing ok but will need some extra care until it picks up strength.

AmyLynn I'm interested in this Save a chick you mentioned, I've never seen it here but is it something I can make up. So far I've given my chick a couple of drops of honey n vitamin water on the side of her beak which she looked for more of.

She's peeping away in the bator at the moment so she's still active, I'll leave her a bit longer before assisting her again an removing the rest of the membrane and shell.
It's a popular product here in the states, widely distributed by our TSC stores. It's an electrolyte powder (they also sell a probiotic powder.)

I've seen people use gatorade or pedialyte in the water as well. I always use the sav a chick in the water for the first couple of days after hatch in my brooder.

Because of the amount of time that has passed between pip and hatch and considering it could have been 3 days or more since yolk absorption, I would offer her a little bit now, but I wouldn't push it too much if she seems uninterested.

Thanks Amy Lynn, we don have that over here and I only have horse electrolytes here so not sure on the dosage for that one for a chick + its up in the stables n there's a bad storm raging outside, but I can and will make up some honey water n a pinch of salt for the morning, its 2am here and finally my chick kicked here way free from the remains of the egg and membrane.

The egg yolk and blood had been absorbed, but the navel was protruding a bit, so I put on some Pivodine and corn starch then took a clean sterile dry dressing and trimmed it down to a square, I put this over the navel n taped it on with micro-pour tape, this falls off after an hr or so and doesn't damage the fluff or feathers. It just covers the navel until it heals over and dries properly but gives it some protection.

I gave my chick some more of the honey water and vitamin mix, put her on some dry paper towel and am keeping her in the bator over night to give her a chance to recover and stay warm away from the other chicks.

The remaining eggs haven't pipped yet so I sectioned them off in the back of the bator, there's still some water in the reservoir but the chick is warm n dry. When its fluffed up some in the morning and is a bit more with it I'll put her with the others in the brooder.

Fingers crossed all go's well now n she gets strong and more active. She is talkative if I'm around the bator or the other chick start peeping to each other which is a good sign, she also reacts to the light as well when I turn it on. So fingers crossed whilst I get a few hrs of much needed sleep.

Thanks everyone for your advice and I'm pleased about your chick Zgm.

and good luck to you both on the chicks! Good night!

Thanks n likewise, i just did a last check on my chick only to find one of the other eggs had just pipped as well lol. So I have that egg wrapped in a damp piece of Paper towel at one side of the separator in the bator and the hatched chick in the dry paper towel on the other side. Both are peeping and look happy n well. So I'm now def getting a few hours sleep. Nite all and I will post some pic's of this little lady n the morning.

No pic's yet as only just woke up but just to let you know she's survived the night and is a lot stronger, I've left her in the bator for a bit longer though as the other chicks are a bit boisterous, so I'll put the big chicks out in the poly tunnel for the day, clean out there cage as it has a heat lamp, put in some clean bedding n put the biggest of the smaller chicks over there for the day n put this girl in with the smallest quietest chicks under the brooder.

This will give her a chance to gain strength over the day. I know the chick is female as she's a CLB. The other chick that piped is doing ok but I've not intervened there to much it has a larger hole than last night and i can see its active inside.

I'll post photos later and i hope that Zgm's chicks also well and active today.
