We got 16" but had 2" from the first storm still on the ground. I can't get to town right now. If you decide to run that black cochin out to me, bring your cross country skiis.

I'll hook up my three dogs and they can just pull me out there. The new puppy likes to pull the other dogs around by the ears so - a sled would be no different. I'll leave in about a 1/2 hour and we will be there in about three days...

ETA: Have some puppy chow available. For a little guy he sure eats a lot! I'm guessing he will be hungry when we get there.

Its absolutely horrid here.

Took me TWO tries to get to the coop, I have a four to five foot drift tween me and the coops, which is about 150 yards from the house.

Just been leaving the girls shut in their coop, but the guineas and peacock babies in a pen covered with plastic and a small coop they can go into the get out of the cold but they didnt get used to it in the summer so wont use it now.

Went out yesterday and my peas were in trouble, at least only a few inches to trudge thru then. I had cell phone, so called sis at the house to get a BIG box ready. They are kinda stuffed in there but warm, and fairly happy.

Today the darned guineas were in trouble, or one was. Tried to catch her and put her in the coop with the chickens, no go. The pen door opens inwards, of course, so doesnt shut when I am in there.
To show me the objection to me trying to catch them, they all five flew out. They have never been out in snow before, they are fairly young, and never been out all night before but I couldnt catch them.

So please send loving warm good thoughts and prayers for my babies out there, the temps are wicked and are supposed to be all week.

So you never got your guineas in??? Oh I hope they will be OK. The snow is bad enough but the wind is WICKED!!!! How is lil' Rudy doing??? He survived last winter just fine - and it was in the negative teens at times.

Meant to tell you Rudy disappeared sometime during the day when he was out mid summer, we think a dog got him, no feathers or anything.

He had a bunch of hens all to himself and was the only roo in the whole yard the whole time he was alive, so was extremely happy he didnt have to fight anyone for them.

We looked and looked. Later the neighbors dog got our babies so even tho many disappeared without a feather, we knew where they went.

And yea, my guineas didnt fly out til I finally got out there around 2 this afternoon. No chance of catching them while sun is out for sure, they crazies. I cant go out there too much, as it kicks my asthma into overdrive. Thought I was gonna plop down in the snow before I made it back to the house the way it was.

The first time I tried to lay down and ROLL over the drift, it was hilarious. OK on the north side, but hit the top and fell thru. That was in the first
15 feet from the house.

My chickens dont have heat but all seem ok, they do have hay stacked against the north side and its pretty solid. If the idiot guineas and pea's would just use their lil house they would be fine. Silly birds.

Here in West Central Minnesota we missed out on the heaviest of the snow. We got just a couple inches. The temps are what's bad here. It only got up to a whole whopping 1º above zero today. I don't know what the temps were with the windchill. Not so sure I want to know. I've been going out every 2 hours to replace the water with some that's not frozen. Found 2 eggs that were split open. Luckily the other 2 eggs I got shortly after they got laid. I was a bit surprised that every time I went out to switch the water that the girls were out in the run rather then hanging out in the coop.
 
Ahhh sorry to hear that about Rudy - yeah - stupid dogs. I have three of them but don't trust the big dog with the chickens. One is just 15 weeks old and the Bichon decided it was nice to hang out in the coop with the chickens today when I let them out for a potty break. I'm surprised the chickens did not keel over from heart attacks. She (the bichon) is indifferent to the chickens but just wanted out of the wind and to eat the suet I made them.

Well take care of you out in the cold with your asthma. The goofy guineas will find their way in when they are good and ready.
