Well, I got my chicks yesterday. I got two sets, one set has a chick that is pooping blood. I have been watching and I believe I found the one doing it and have seperated them. II know I need to treat all of them for cocci (sp?) my question is. what is the best kind? I haven't lost any chicks...yet...but I'm going to the feed store tomorrow.

I kinda expected this though from my second set. When I went to pick them up there we're about 60-70 chicks in a pen that was NOT big enough for all of them. There was poop everywhere...my going to pick up chicks kinda became a 'going to rescue some chicks'.
Also, one more thing! Is there really any point on seperating the sick chick from the rest? I mean they are all exposed right?

Thanks so much. You have no idea how much you guys help!

I think you have Coccidosis. I would get some Corid right away. That's the medicine I use for any signs of Cocci, you mix it into their water. I think the separation would depend on how much room you have, but if possible, I would separate the chick and still give both batches of chicks the Corid. They've probably all been 'exposed' to it. The only time I had Cocci, I was not aware of what it was and two died in a matter of hours before I could get to the store. By the time I got the meds there was no point in separating them, so I gave it to all of them. Bloody poop is a sign that indicates the Cocci is at the latter stages so you've got to get the medicine into them pronto! It works really fast though. I prefer Corid for Coccidosis, but a friend of mine swears by Sulmet too, if they don't have Corid available.

I hope your babies feel better soon!

We have used Oxytetracycline before too and it works but it is very likely coccideosis heres the plan I would adopt give corid or any of the other antibiotics that treat cocci and I feed a medicated starter cocci can be bad and deadly and its highly contageous

Yea I figured that's what they had but I'm not familiar with the brand so thanks for the advice! I will be getting to the feed store early in the morning...not much I can do until then. I do have them on medicated feed right now and that's what they were eating before I got them. But that's a whole other subject

. Anywho Ok well I will watch them, I do have the baby seperated with a little teddy bear to keep it company. Hopefully it makes it but unfortunately I think it got it from the conditions it was in before I picked them up

Anywho, thanks so much! I have a few options as to where to go for the meds so I will call them when they open.
