Hi all,
I'm new to the group so this is an introduction by fire so to speak.
We have 4 Aracona's and are just getting started.

This morning we found blood under where they roost but they seem ok, no obvious injury's.

It's under just one of them would roost at night.

They are just getting to the age of laying. Could this be a "getting started" laying issue?

If you think the blood is in the droppings then you need to treat for coccidiosis. Treatment is Corid(amprolium), liquid or powder, found at most feed supply stores, tractor supply, etc. If that is what it is, start treatment quickly, it can progress very fast.
I'd also check them over for any wounds, which could be cause of some bleeding, maybe from a peck on the roosts. Combs can bleed a lot from a tiny nick. A wound might just look like a small black mark if it's stopped bleeding.

Can you post a photo of the blood? Is it obvious dark red congealed blood or pinkish flesh coloured tissue which might be shed intestinal lining? Sometimes a damaged claw will bleed, so check feet thoroughly as well. It is not normal to pass blood when they are at point of lay although those first eggs might be streaked with a little blood as they are pushed out and cause slight tears. It definitely should not be dripping out of them or being pooped out.

PS. Not wanting to be pedantic but just for your information, there are Ancona chickens which are Mediterranean birds with large single combs that lay white eggs or Araucana which are South American in origin and lay blue eggs. I'm guessing your chickens will be one or the other... probably the latter. It may save you some confusion in the future if you know which you have.
