Bloody poop help!

HELLO! I read through and tried to gather the info I could out of here..... but one of 8 chicks I have together right now started laying bloody poop yesterday, im not sure which chick it is so how do I go about treating it ?? im also confused ive read multiple different things on here ..... the chicks are 4 weeks old, been healthy since the get go, everyone appears to eat and drink normal. but started noticing yesterday a few blood poop piles and more this morning. most answers talk about Corid ?

There are different things that could cause bloody poop, but the one that is a real danger is Coccidiosis. The rest are probably not a threat but Coccidiosis kills. I strongly suggest you don’t analyze any further but get some Corid and treat them according to the directions. Now! Once you do that, we can discuss further. Don’t waste time now. Coccidiosis is a threat and Corid will not hurt them if it is not Coccidiosis.

I feel like a panicky mom, ive never had this happen with so much liquid blood befor in a chick, but my husband has my truck today, I told him he has to pick up Corid on his way home!!!.... is there anything I should do while im waiting? other than try and figure out which one it is. if I dont figure out which can they all be treated with the corid ???

If it's cocci, which it sound like, treat all of them.... Corid won't hurt them... Hope things get better!!

Yes, definitely treat them all.

In the meantime, make sure they have very clean water and keep them in a dry place. A wet brooder, coop, or run is a major contributor to Coccidiosis. There are different strains of the bug that causes Coccidiosis and they have different strengths, but wet is usually a contributor to the problem. Try to dry things out if they are wet. An change out the water, don't just ad more to the water dish.

ok good to know! I didn't know wetness could contribute to coccidiosis. sometimes the duckling get into the chick brooder and make a mess with the water, that has to be cleaned out daily..... they all came form the same place and have been in things next to each other at night , then together in a more open enclosment for a bit during the day for fresh air. ive never had this happen befor, I guess because my chicks and ducks were always little at different times. this was very insightful! thank you again! going to do some re arranging till the medicine gets here!

A little buttermilk or milk if you don't have buttermilk, will coat their GI tract a bit until you get the Corid. Please tell your husband it's in with cattle medicines in small containers of liquid or small packets of powder. It has other brand names such as Ampromed, and this time of year it can be sold out, as I found the other day at my local store. That is why it is good to keep some around whenever you have chicks. Dosage of Corid is 2 tsp of liquid (or 1.5 tsp powder) per gallon of water. Just divide by 4 for quarts. Mix new each day, treat all chicks, and if they are not drinking it, you need to give it in a dropper or syringe. Chicks with cocci eventually stop eating, and later, drinking, but they usually respond to the medicine in a day or so. After finishing Corid, give a few days of probiotics and vitamins. Thanks everyone for your quick help ! today will be day 2 on the corid and i didnt notice any bloody poop so far this morning, so i think its going well. the ducks and chicks deff wernt to excited about being completely separated but they can re join in the coop eventually you learn something new everyday, so scary when your not preparied for something you've never dealt with. determeined to never let it happen again, but have the powder on hand now just in case. ... thanks again!
