Blooie's Blankie Fort

Brings in a bag of Indian Candy Corn(mmmmmmmm!!) and passes it around......

SoYesterday....Chicken Coop Bedding Totally Changed Out - CHECK!
Was easier and faster than I thought it was going to be, not quite as dusty as I had feared either, still wore serious dust mask most the time tho.
Locked all the birds in the main run and just chucked it all out the other pop door into the auxiliary run instead of trying to actively hot compost it.
Supposed to rain tons tonite/tomorrow...so we'll see if it gets stinky.
Chickens are afraid to come back into coop, one I chased in is 'hiding' out up on the roosts. Hahaha! Hope they go back in at dusk.

Whew, so glad.....they all went in but one, and she was easy to grab off the pop door porch......did NOT want to do a chicken rodeo tonite.

Most were still avoiding the 'scary floor' this morning.....but it was pouring rain out so I gave them their scratch in the coop and cleaned poop bards while they were all inside....there are still a few that are avoiding the floor....SMH... too funny. Got a good inch of rain this morning, doesn't stink out there yet, still may keep it closed off for now, it's usually closed all winter but I haven't culled yet. So may need the extra space but they are getting along ok without it, but some really want to go out there. SugarFueledBlather STOP ByeBye.

Hey, as long as the candy corn isn't the kind with the chocolate dipped ends, pass some around!!

Sounds like a chicken rodeo at your place! Would someone explain to my why the slightest change in their environment can throw them into a total panic and they go into freeze mode, but when THEY want to get into trouble by sticking their beaks into some new, different, and potentially dangerous place they'll "flock" to that spot time and time again? Guess they are selective panickers! (And once again spell check needs CPR)

I did a clean out a few weeks ago, but once again I left the bottom 3 or 4 inches of old stuff down and just removed the top layers. Any composting slows down and virtually stops once winter sets in, so I save the full clean out for spring - if I think it needs it. Using leaves (as I just explained on another thread) has really cut down on the depth of cleaning I need to do, and I'm glad for that!

Yeah. We measured 5 inches of the stuff but the local paper put our total at 7" in just that one day. Brother - I can wait for this!!

Yes, chocelate end...thus INDIAN Corn ;-)......the best kind....OK blooie doesn't want any.
AwGAWD Snow!!! Runs away........................

Guess I can probably take the hummingbird feeders in now, right? Chocolate and candy corn - seems as unlikely a combination as dipping apples in French Onion chip dip - oh, wait...I like that. Need to find another analogy!

Wait WHUT?

Yep, I confess....I was eating dip and chips one day while I was slicing an apple up for Katie. Dropped a slice of the apple in the dip, and without thinking popped it in my mouth. Liked it...and I figure the healthy negates the bad, right?

Well, it's not real chocolate, just chocolate flavored(pretty good chocolate flavor) mellowcreme......I love em!

Apples and french onion dip....hmmmm....might be alright..apples and cheese is good so why not sour cream<shrugs> (****... I could go for some chip dip)
My mother loved pickle and pnut butter sandwiches..GAG....so there's no accounting for taste

Hi All! I've been busy with Soccer and lots of volunteering this time of year. I missed the most incredible video I could have taken of my daughter and a friend. Soccer game was going along and one of the downs syndrome girls decided Jessica needed a friend. So, I snapped a photo while they were face to face having a conversation, but didn't get the video going fast enough to catch her reach out and grab Jessica's hand and lead her over to where they were supposed to be. They were buddies for the rest of the game.

On the chicken front, since I have permission to keep my chickens, I brought back the favorite silkies I had been temporarily housing a couple hours north of me. I bought a cheap little hen house to keep them separate for a bit, just to make things safer.

I had 1 sad little egg out of the 24 I had set (the rest were infertile) hatch. It needed company. I called around and the youngest chicks I could find were 4 weeks old. They made me buy 2. Those 2 were fine for 10 days, when they killed my baby. So, I threw those 5/6 week old babies in with my relocated silkies. There were a couple of days that they got picked on, but now they are standing their ground and are doing great.

Oh, and chocolate candy corn - isn't chocolate, and i"m not a fan....but it's better than the plain candy corn....

That looks so pretty. Like fairyland.

I put fertile eggs under my chook because she went all clucky, and it's all because of this thread, Blooie. Now I'm a nervous wreck thinking they won't hatch or they'll get murdered if they do.
