Hey, how come no one else caught this?
Aveca, chickens can't lay eggs that are different colors. Your EE lays either a pink egg,or a blue egg but she can't lay both.
LOL,Oh, but wouldnt it be cool if they did? She was the one and only EE we have ever had,, ,Most of the time her eggs were small but pale blue. the rest we had at that time all australorps.
If Im going to get into a breed, I would rather learn as much as poss befor I just jump in or impulse buy. , she was only a pet.chances are one of the aussie pullets laid a little pinkish egg in with hers and the older aussies eggs that were much larger and we ASSUMED it was hers not knowing about the breed. everyone thought those eggs were hers , . Am looking to buy hatching eggs this spring. Decent birds that can be show as well as eggs shown..so studying and asking lots of questions, I know what I like, and I like the black birds with blue eggs. they are just striking to me. Lots of nice birds, but they are my favorite. thou I am still confused there seems to be 3 different kinds , maybe more of this breed. like subspecies.
as for that pet chicken, She has gone to the big chicken coop in the sky, otherwise I would gladly take some pics for you. It was quite a long time ago. Because of her we all even the neighbors thought all EES laid multi colored eggs, and they were dissappointed they never found a greenish one, only blue and pink. At the time I didnt think too much about it. the neighbor kids would stand there and practically catch the eggs as the fell out of the chickens, some kids are like that, chickens and horses just tickle them.
Looking back on it, the neighbor who helped herself to the eggs couple times a week nic-named her mood ring cause she kept finding those same size eggs, yet they did seem to be different color, very very pale thou, not like robin egg blue changed to hello kitty pink. there was a hint of color, nuff to notice but not loud.We stood and talked about it one day and compared them, But I didnt really think anything about it. I thought it was just one of those strange things like the chicken with one green leg and one yellow leg, unless you see it you just cant beleive it..her origional owners husband was a doctor who was moving to minn , he was offered a partnership at a hospital there.we got one of thier chickens and a couple other people got the rest.
