I agree with HappyChick. I have a neighbor who used to have EEs and she had pretty much the same experience with hers--faded from blue to white/ivory as the season went on.

I was going to say the same thing... There's a person near me with easter eggers who says depending on time of year, they get different colored eggs - from blue to pink.

Goodness, if that bird really is from the same breeder, maybe the chick will be mottled after all.

Still, mottling is a nice pattern. Did it hatch from a blue egg or green? Mottled Ameraucana project possibilities?

The problem with that is that people see colours differently. What one person sees as pure blue another seens as blue-green. I have never seen a chicken egg that did not look to have some amount of green in its hue. To me, pure blue almost tends towards red (purple/lavender) ever so slightly. Look at all the various blues (go through the whole list as not all are shown as "blue") at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors When I look at their sample of sky blue it looks closer to blue than to green, but to me robins egg blue is as much green as it is blue. Blue samples are consolidated at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Shades_of_blue

Yes, the American robin is very different from the beautiful European robin. Do not get me wrong - I think our American robin is very lovely - but so is the Euro.

Half way down the page shows a nest of Robin's Blue eggs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Robin

Fantastic
thread for a "newbie" like me in egg color game - not to mention the whole EE, Ameraucana, Araucana education. Cannot wait for my chicks from Mr. Blehm this spring -- three adorable blacks.

I completely agree with you! This is why I run when people contact me only looking for the bluest eggs you have and that is all they are interested in.
