That's okay, it was nice of you to share info with us here! They were recommended to us as not many kids are showing them here at our fairs for 4-H. It also makes it difficult to find where to get them from too! We are hoping to increase the number we have by hatching out from our owe birds. Like all the chickens we have they sure do grow on you!

I recently brought home a 5 month old BA pullet and she gave me eggs right away. Good Girl!
She is so amusing...talks to herself all day. My husband says it's soothing while he's working in the yard.
Her companion is a Mottled Java who is very quiet. I just love the Blue's ongoing conversation.

I will post some pictures of her on this thread shortly.

Aren't they a neat addition to have! We have a small group now 2 boys and 4 girls and currently are running a test incubation, we have 5 eggs showing good developement and due to hatch Dec. 6th

We will than be re-loading the incubator Dec 11th for a New Year's hatch.

Hello every one! I see some very nice Blue Andy's on here. Do any of you by chance have a Black cockerel or Roo that you would sell? My wife has two Andy pullets from Mcmurry and really wants to get some blue hens. We do not need show quality she just wants blue hens. We live in North Carolina, but are willing to pay for the Bird and shipping if necessary.

I'm considering getting one of these chickens in the spring and i'm researching a few different breeds. is this breed good at flying? i have a 6ft fence and my other girls free range all day long without trying to fly over it.

We are in lock down with 5 Blue Andalusian eggs, they are due to hatch Dec 6th

Our runs have covers so the Andalusians don't fly over, when they were younger, one did manage to get out through a open spot in the cover but didn't go far from the group.

Not sure if this breed is the source or not-you might need to find a genetics thread and post there as this thread moves pretty slow.

Good luck-Chief, hope you find a Black Andalusian boy-we have 2 Blues that we are working with currently so we will get Blue, Black and Splash chicks from our hatches.

I also have Andalusian eggs going to hatch on the 6th, I believe around 2 dozen.

As to flying over a 6ft fence. Generally they will stay in but it won't keep them in if they wanted to get out. I doubt an 8ft fence would actually keep in any of the lighter breeds. But like what was posted, if they do get out, they usually stay by the fence trying to get back in with their friends, forgetting they could fly back across. Instead, you'll be the one putting her back in.

While the ideal blue color itself should all look like the Andalusian blue, it is not the source for all blue breeds. It is a source for several but not all. Several blue breeds were created by white sports that had a different gene in them and they either bred that to black to get blue, or they bred the sports to each other to get it. Blue Jersey Giants are a good example of that. I also believe if you breed a black to a white (must be the correct type of white and off the top of my head, I can't remember which one) you'll get splash and then breed it back to black and you'll have blue.

With Andalusians if you breed splash and black together you will get blue:
