Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

I learned my lesson yesterday. I don't have any white egg layers so I got some white eggs from walmart. I don't know what they feed those chickens (or don't feed) but their eggs will crush in your hands while you are putting the rub ons on. I did manage to get one egg to not crush and got several small rub ons on it but not so sure I like the bright white look.

On average, 1/2 of all the uncollectable eggs are shell-less, and up to 7% of all eggs laid are uncollectable.
That goes for commercial egg layers. Straight from my poultry science manual I have to study for a competition. There's a lot of eggs collected...but...think about it. Not just soft spots or weak shells, but no shell! Poor hens must not be getting much calcium. Or if they are, it's probably not being absorbed properly (which I wouldn't doubt, I bet the birds are stressed 24/7!).

Ok y'all,

Here's what the "BOY crafter"

Now you all did it....you made go to Michael's and find stuff.....I thought I'd loose my last marble in the store though. hmm
First I went to the scrapbooking supplies, slim pickings for rub ons usable for Christmas. OK, found two that I thought may work. One is poinsettas, not too bad. Then I came across another area by the glass etching stuff - they had more rub ons.....for wedding, summer, fall themes. he
OK, forget about that and move on.Oh - look, bigger sheets of rub ons, right next to the wood decorating/working stuff!!! Nah, huge Chickens, Ivy, Kid themes. Wrong, don't need that...barnie
After what seemed like hours I was on the other end of the store. Well, don't you know - they had Christmas themed rub ons there....bow
OK, found some silver and gold stuff, some angels. Got some gold glitter spray just for a light sprinkle, got thread, goop for coating the eggs, a pokey type of tool I found in the jewelery making isle, toohpicks I already have at home, same for wooden shish-kabob thingies.....woot
OK, after my endless crusade this afternoon I am home, ready for a glass of wine to recover from this - but no, I am on call for anoher two or 3 hours - no drink for me. hit
These egg ornaments better turn out great, they have been so much work already!!!!! wink

Were we at the same store? You just described exactly what I did today too! Oh my aching head! I only found 2 packages of ridiculously expensive bead caps which I passed on.

Thanks Miss Prissy! Your eggs are beautiful.

I started doing these without even knowing about this thread...but I'm glad I found it - you have a lot of valuable info on here! If I turn my eggs into ornaments I will be sure to follow your steps to get the ribbon in.

Also...good to know about the 15 sec increments in the microwave.

I forgot to add earlier that you can get the Christmas rub on transfers from Micheals. They have them in the same aisle that they have the blank Christmas ornaments...ceramic, clear glass balls etc They are super cute too!

I also got some from Hobby Lobby, but when I did they were on the clearance wall.
