Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

I've used it as a light glitter for wedding invitations and flower petals. I think I will try it on the eggs. I have to go to town tomorrow and will probably end up at Wal-Mart. I will see if they have any left. I'm hoping for the silver glitter, but I'm not sure if they will have any. If they do, I will definately be doing this. I will post pictures if I get to do it.

Got some gold glitter hair spray from the mark down Halloween stuff at wal-mart 3 can at 50 cents a can

I can do a lot quail eggs and regular eggs with it, going to go to dollar store and get some cute little baskets some moss and spray the eggs with glitter and clear coat glue to basket add a ribbon for a tree ornament. I will post pics when I get some done, has any one used the oven at a low temp to dry eggs, instead of microwave just wondering if it would work.

Well my Wal-Mart didn't have the spray glitter, rub-on transfers, or bead caps. I guess I will look online and see what kind of supplies I can get. I did blow out 4 dozen duck eggs yesterday. I'm waiting for the quail to lay enough to make the job worthwhile. They just started laying so it might be a while. My duck eggs were real easy to blow out, but the quail (I tried 2) crushed real easily. I used a 60 ml syringe with a 18 guage needle to blow out the eggs. I was using a flavor injector syringe until it broke on me. The needle made it easy to poke the holes and scramble the yolks. I am going to spend the evening shopping online. I'll let you know what I figure out and then I'll post pics of the final product.

smfamf - so you use a syringe with a needle to poke thru and blow out the eggs? Wow...that sounds A LOT easier than the method I'm using....

So when you poke thru the shell with the needle, does it go thru clean without cracking the shell around the hole? Do you have to do it really fast?
Do you just make 1 hole?
And do you draw the egg contents into the syringe or blow air into the egg to force the contents out?
Sorry about all the Q's...but it sounds so efficient!

The needle was sharp enough to pierce straight through the shell. It left a clean hole, no cracking. I filled the syringe with air, inserted the needle into the egg, and then slowly pushed the air inside the eggs. It can be done with one hole, but two holes makes it easier. I did some both ways. The only thing I had to be careful of was not pressing the syringe into the eggs when expelling the air. That was the only time I cracked the eggs.

Awesome! That sounds very easy...I would only worry about sticking myself with the needle...

....does it take much pressure to get thru the shell?
and....where did you get your syringe / needles? from the feedstore like others suggested?

We get ours from the medical supplier that delivers meds for our cattle. I guess you can get them at a feed store. I never have looked. Once you get the needle in place it doesn't take much pressure to drill the hole. I just twist the needle a little, sort like a drill would do. I tried using my Dremel tool with a drill bit in it, but it slug egg everywhere. After two eggs, I was covered in egg white, along with my kitchen. The needle didn't slip, so sticking myself wasn't an issue. I use them all the time, so I am confident using them.

Ok that just sounded like I use needles all the time.

Let me clarify, I use them for vet purposes only.

We raise cattle, have various breeds of poultry, dogs, cats, and ferrets.

Cool! I've used syringes and needles before when I worked in the lab, just wasn't sure how easy it was to get them thru the shell.
Thanks for the info and for answering my Q's...I'll have to look into getting that stuff now...I'm tired of drilling holes and blowing by mouth.

Hopefully you can find your supplies...let us know how your eggs turn out!

if an egg has an air sack why do you expel more air into it? its not a vacuum seal? why not just go through the fat end where the air is? I do that when making vaccine but figured it was to break the vacuum seal in some way, never thought of doing it to the egg though.... very interesting
