Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

If you push air into the egg, something has to come out because of physics. The eggs can only hold so much. The egg whites and yolk are pushed out by the air that is inserted into the air. Basically you are replacing the egg guts with air. You can also use a clean syringe with hot water to clean the inside of the egg. I have a double sink in my kitchen. I fill the syringe and insert the needle into the egg. I then place the egg and syringe on the divider between the sinks with the egg pointing up. I then use the sink to push the water up into the egg. I try to shoot the water fairly wuickly. The jet of hot water cleanes all the residue out of the egg shell. It also takes the membrane off the inside of the egg. After a couple of jets of water, there really isn't much left to casue smelly eggs.

I have used the oven method befor but the microwave is much faster and easier(in my opinion) and some people say the oven makes the eggs more brittle.

thank you for the info, will try both ways and see how they work.

The microwave seems like a less costly way to do it. Ovens can take a lot of energy to heat up, unless you use the little toaster ovens like I do

Didn't know you could use the microwave; I'll probably do that next time to dry them out.

About emptying the eggs, I use a syringe and one hole in the egg. I make the hole bigger than the needle of course, and holding the egg straight up, I push air into the egg....and out comes the yolk/whites. Much easier if the eggs have had some time out on the counter to get room temp. The only thing about doing this is I always end up with yolk on my hand with the syringe in it

But I don't really mind. One hole is much easier to cover up than two!

So basically, I do the same as smfamf. Except after all the insides are out, I fill the egg up with hot water via the syringe, cover the hole with my thumb and shake it like crazy. Then push air in again like in the beginning to get the water out, and repeat a couple more times. Then the inside of the egg is clean!

Ok, I've been watching this thread since it first got posted and am finally ready to make some eggs. I have ZERO craft ability, but I figure I can't go too wrong with rub-ons.

I'm heading to Wal-Mart tonight when I get off work and if I don't find stuff there I'll make a trip to Michael's tomorrow. Now to get home and start blowing eggs out! I think I'll do my some from my EEs, Marans, and Coturnix. Maybe a few of my pink eggs too. This will be fun!

i haven't quit hatching eggs long enough to get any to blow out and decorate.....
lol... some of these are really cool though.. i may have to do it next year after the novelty of chicks has worn off for my kids.. lol..

Walmart was a big fat zero for egg crafting supplies. I would recommend Michael's. They have awesome rub-ons, bead caps, and just about everything else. I'm up to 54 eggs and can't seem to stop!
