Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

Yikes! Sounds like you have a very busy life at the moment. I wish mine would lay. I have two eggs outside I think, and I don't even know how many days (I'm thinking 2 weeks?) it took to lay them. Just one hen, barely chugging along with it

The rest are laughing at me. They know I want to make a truck load of these things. They must be boycotting, in hopes for extra food

Mary, they could have a secret nest, too. As I said on the thread about frozen eggs, my parents' hens managed to hide eggs from us for at least two weeks one Winter. It was quite impressive to see my parents come back inside and start pulling eggs from all the pockets on their heavy coats. Everytime I knew they *had* to be done, they opened another pocket and revealed another five eggs. We tried the float test to see if any were rotten. We finally gave up and set them aside for us to use anyway. It had been below freezing or at least "refrigerator cold" for several weeks at that point. I'm still alive, so I'd say my parents guessed right!

What made us all feel stupid was the nest was in plain sight... BEHIND the coop, where we didn't normally have a reason to go. I keep this in mind and force myself to do a circuit of the chicken run, even if I'm feeling lazy. I'd suggest a thorough "lookie" and read up on the feed thread for all the recent suggestions for treats and supplements to get them back to laying.

Good luck!

I found one of the "secret" nests today! Actually my son did. There is one hen that gets out every day no matter what we do to keep her in. He will go out at least 2 times a day and put her back in. He is only 3 so this is a game to him. Today he was going outside to get her in but I stopped him. I saw where he was going and it was in plain sight. She was sitting inside an empty cage that has filled with leaves. There were 10 eggs in there! I can not tell you how many time I have walked right past that area and never noticed.
We always keep all eggs like that and don't sell them. I have never found a bad one yet. I just crack them over a separate bowl to check color and smell befor adding them to whatever I am cooking and they are always just fine.

You know, I just love checking back on this thread to see what everyone else is up to. Love the Rudolph idea. It is simple and cute and would be a good one for the kids (I think).

I have a BUNCH of chickens...most are of laying age. The month of November I got maybe 6-8 eggs total. About a week ago I found a hidden clutch of 10 on the ground under one of the cedar tree stumps we uprooted. Sneaky girl. We went on a hunt, but found no other eggs. They've just ceased laying. Now that I "need" the eggs, it figures they've been slacking!

On the upside...one of my BO's has given me 3 eggs this week. Things are looking up!

After I found another secret nest 2 days ago, I put fake eggs back in the place of the 10 that had been hidden there and she is still going back to it. Befor, any time we found her nests and took the eggs she would move to a diff. spot. Wish I had thought of this earlier lol.
