Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Would love some feedback on my Blue Copper Marans
The amount of shafting, and amount of color in the breast, indicates to me that he has Wheaten in his bloodline somewhere. If you are not breeding to SOP, then it matters not what he looks like. If you are breeding, or desire to breed to SOP, I would not use him as your patriarchal rooster.

I have a similar issue as above regarding 2 splash roosters from the same hatch. One is darker, bigger but with less feathered legs while the other has less splash overall and is smaller but with much better feathered shanks. smaller boy with less splash pattern look at those shanks but there are feathers on the middle toe both together Bigger and darker boy with more splash patterning egads! where are all those feathers? My 3 boys. I'd love to keep all three but cannot happen. I was told there is an accepted standard for splash game fowl (I believe it was game fowl) but cannot seem to locate. If anyone can direct me to it that would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I could be very wrong, but the standard for splash game fowl will not apply to all breeds. Splash is something that cannot be standardized as it will produce a different colored (splashed) bird every time. P.S. Don't be too afraid of the male with the feathers on the middle toe, he can be of great assistance later on if you find that you start to lose leg feathering in future generations.

Looks like her eye color is going to be good! The fact that it is not dark right now is a good thing.

And Congrats on your babies!!!

I have been babysitting a splash roo for a friend but he is all grown up now and i don't think she really wants him back.. So i have many options for Blue Roos already, I am wondering if you guys can help me with thinking of a good reason not to sell him. maybe there are some uses he can have that i have not thought of

He still needs more growing to see about type but he is quite big....

I always have a hard time selling them no matter what!!!

YAY! 13/14 Marans hatched and #14 zipping...3 splash, 4 blue, 6 BCM here. Meanwhile, outside: windchill 10 degrees, flurries turning the world winter-white. Which may be fine for other parts of the country but not in NW Oregon.

Thanks Friends!

I think final count is 18. When the last two that just hatched are ready to come out of the incubator, I will get some photos.

Congrats on your hatch Ihilani!
