Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

What is to high of a humidity for Marans?
I think it totally depends on your local conditions, climate, RH in the room, etc. I've heard of people doing continuous hatching in a cabinet where they put in eggs every week and keep it at 50% all the time. And I know someone who run completely dry, not a drop of water EVER, and use the increased humidity of the hatching. He also taped shut the top ventilation holes in his cabinet incubator, so the only thing open are the two small vent holes in the bottom. It works for him. (I would personally not even try either of these.)

I set eggs every week continuously. I do have to add some water int he winter but never in the summer. I don't really have any ventilation holes but it is not air tight either. I keep my humidity under 35% if possible. I have not added water to the incubator for a few weeks.... it is not even registering just says LO. I need to add some water. I don't hatch in the incubator. I have a sep hatcher.

So if mine are not making it to the end of the hatch what would you do?

I see I'm going the rout this time.

I never intended to do continuous incubating/hatching, but here I am. Due to shipping issues, etc. I will have three different sets of chicks at least a week apart before I can turn it off and do a thorough cleaning. I don't have a hatcher, just this old dinosaur GQF 1266 (intended for emu eggs back in the day when they were a fad). It has three trays but the bottom one has been taken off and I put it in the bottom of the incubator for a hatch tray (non-turning). I can also put shipped eggs down on the bottom for the first 48 hours so they aren't turned to give the detached aircells more "Quiet" time.

I was truly and sadly shocked that just upping RH to 30-35% (instead of the previous "dry" 20-24%) before lockdown lost me 22 chicks.

What does RH mean?

Wow That is shocking. Mines stays in that range in the summer and I dont see a huge lose of chicks. Have you calibrated your hygrometer?
