<<Blue Copper Marans>> who won the ones on ovabid?

There is no excuse for passing those eggs off as Marans eggs. My cuckoos lay much darker than that throughout their laying cycle. I'd be asking for a refund.

Technically they don't even qualify as the Marans breed if that's as dark as they lay. I forget which number of darkness they have to be before you can even call them a Marans.

I got my first Marans chicks about 6 years ago from a breeder who is now deceased. Plain old cuckoos and other than wanting to be broody to often, they've been a great breed. I find it rather sad that there is all this hoopla over some of the different colors when eggs like that are being sold because they come from a harder to find color of bird. People selling those kinds of eggs are only in it to make a buck...not better the breed.

Yep. It is terrible. Luckily Cuckoos are readily available and reasonable. 4 is the minimum number on the scale to be considered a Marans. Worse than the fact that someone is making bucks, is that people, lots of them are being cheated.

I love the breed and hope to breed responsibly. I think Cuckoos are great and have more ordered. My first ones legs turned yellow.

OMG...You said they were light, but I had no idea they were THAT light. They ARE 1s and 2s! Shame to that seller. How pathetic. That doesn't even resemble a marans at all. I thing my blue andalusians lay a darker egg than that...Oh wait...They lay white eggs...Ha Ha Ha Ha At least you didn't get totally screwed and got your money back.

A picture IS worth a thousand words.

The funny thing is, this seller has oodles of "beautiful eggs" comments on their ebay thread. Maybe their fake comments?

Or MAYBEEEEE, these eggs are from hens that were towards the end of their laying cycle and they just started to lighten up...Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

Yes, I agree, Drom, and I was specifically talking about Copper Blues as that is the title of this thread. I should be careful as it sure came off as generalizing on my part. I think I know who you got yours from, and I don't have any experience with her directly, but she sounds like she has the real deal. It just seems like 50 plus for a half dozen of not real Copper blues seems like a whole heck of alot of dough for poor quality eggs. And somewhere I said just what you said, that even breeders with good stock aren't a guarantee. That is the nature of this breed.

I am going out on a limb here and post some eggs. The left hand side are the eggs I paid $50 a half dozen for. On the right are my redstar eggs which are darker and more uniform. The tiny ones on top are two of the "Marans" eggs that came. The tiny ones on the right are layed by my Bantam who can fit in the palm of my hand. Why spend that kind of money for eggs lighter and smaller than production hens lay? That is all I am trying to warn folks about. I have no other motive than to save people from getting taken for a ride.....

Here are the eggs

And here are the girls that laid them.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

I just responded on the other thread. Hey, you're double-posting! ahahahahahha
There's only two excuses for selling eggs like that I can think of. Dishonesty or ignorance.
At least you got your money back. But, if it was a case of dishonesty I have to say it again; who do these people think they are fooling?? I mean how long can you pull off a caper like that before angry people come after you with pitchforks? hehehehe

So I think on the French site they say after the first 20 eggs a really good hen's eggs will stabilize around a 6.
