Hello there! This spring brought my first small flock of blue laced reds. First I picked up 2 from a local feed store and 3 more a week later from a local breeder. Today they are 7 and 6 weeks old, respectively. The hatchery stock feathered in much more quickly than the local breeder's. I believe I have 1 pullet and maybe 1 cockerel from the hatchery, as the one feathered in slightly slower and has a pinker comb and began developing a wattle. First picture is the suspected hatchery roo at 7 weeks.

The 3 breeder's chicks all began developing wattles and pink combs between 4-5 weeks, especially pronounced in the 2 BLR. The black one experienced this to a much lesser extent, though I still suspect they may all 3 be cockerels. Pictures 2 & 3 are the breeder's birds at 6 weeks.

Last I included a side by side of the hatchery suspected roo and the most roostery-looking from the breeder's batch. The breeder's roo is a week or so younger but has a much brighter comb and a bigger wattle, causing me to hope the hatchery guy is a pullet but I think it's just a difference in quality birds.

This breed is so pretty and that's really neat you can compare them side by side. I hope you'll update with photos as they grow.

Here's a picture of the 1 who I feel confident is a pullet from the bunch, she's a splash who came from the hatchery. Her comb has hardly changed and her wattle is barely-there and colorless. Also she has an overall more plain appearance than the rest - aside from being more buff-colored than actually red (again, hatchery quality!) she never had any red patches on the shoulders as she was feathering in. All the other ones are too pretty to be hens I'm afraid! I'll update with pictures as they grow but I may have to rehome the more obvious roos sooner than later..

Yes, this one is a pullet.

I love this breed I have 3 adults myself and 5 that are 3 weeks from Cackle Hatcheries and 8 or 9 that I just hatched out this week myself. Love the coloring and the personalities.

You have some beauties!
