I'm thinking blue cockerel... What do you think...![]()
I agree. With my blacks the green sheen , when in full sunlight , was fairly obvious early on in the piece .

Are BLRW able to be feather sexed?

Pretty birds.:O S I guess I have 3 blues and a splash instead of two blues a black and a splash... Looks like I only have one pullet too...maybe this comparison pic will help you. on the left is a blue; on the right is a black. you can see the wing feathers on the blue have some black in them! but the butt fluff is clearly gray/blue. the black is a true dark black.these are from ChickenHill
just for fun, here is the black chick on the right, as of yesterday. he is 4.5 mos old now. I am only keeping the Blue males, so this guy is headed for freezer camp in the next month or so. Unless I find someone in need of a beautiful black blrw male?

When breeding blue you will get 50% blue (true enough for the APA) and 25% Splash and 25% Black. Breeding blue to blue it the best breeding practice and should give you nice blues.I'm sure this question has been asked 100 times on this thread, but I have searched and can't read though 5000+ posts, so I will ask it again! LOL!
I have 5 BLRW youngsters and it's looking like I have 3 "splash" and 2 "blue." My question is (and pardon, I am new at BLRWs) is there any way that blues breed true? Or will you always have a splash in there? If there is a way to breed true blue, do I need to get rid of the splash? I got all 5 (looking like 2 roos and 3 pullets) from a breeder, but as I was picking them up he admitted they came from an auction. So I don't know where these guys came from originally.
I think I might have a pair of blues, but if the splash are going to happen anyway, I will keep all 5 (and see which Roo is better.) But if they will breed true without the splash, I would rather go that way. Thanks for the info!
