Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Wow, that was severe. Poor chickens, that looks terrible. Definitely think I could spot one if those.
scissor beak comes in all sizes. Sometimes it is so minor it is hardly notable.

I just got my chicks and I was wondering if there was a difference In color of the boys and girls? I have 2 that are a little darker than the other 4, could they just be darker or different sexes?
BLRW can come in three colors. Blue, Black and Splash. If you look back through this thread, there are many photos of chicks of these three colors. You can compare yours and see what version you have.

Unfortunately I lost all 7 of my blrw chicks yesterday:( very upset about this ridiculous cold front we got this weekend. They were almost 2 months old and were outside for 2 weeks and then this...

Hey there!
I hatched some BLRW chicks a few weeks ago and they don't look much like the other BLRW that I hatched the batch before them.
Is this what they are supposed to look like? Lol

I have a full grown BLR and the older chick looks more like her. All but the last chick in these pictures look really dark, black more than blue, and with gold feathers. The last one looks SUPER pale, but she seems to have the right coloring.

Yes, this is what they look like. You have more of the black variety this time. The red will darken..but if you get gold in the head they will not darken enough. Your top one looks good so far and possibly like a pullet..its just a guess. The bottom one too..looks like a splash and a pullet. I like the wide wing feathers and color coming in on the bottom chick. They will look different in a month.

Sorry to hear of your loss..I am getting hit here too with the cold. The BLRW do not seem as hardy as the Orpingtons. I have not lost one Orp chick, silkie or any chick I have hatched here. I lost chicks I purchased or were sent to me. All of them either BLR or SLW. Nasty weather is part of it.

Oh I'm so glad to hear this! I am new to this breed, but I think they are absolutely gorgeous!
I hope to follow this thread more now that I have a good little flock of them.
