Hello BYC. I have BMD souluable that I am going to use to help treat enteritis. I am only treating two chickens, so does anybody have any pointers on how to mix it up?

Thank you!!

Here is a link about mixing it:  http://www.drugs.com/vet/bmd-soluble-can.html

There are many antibiotics that treat enteritis such as amoxicillin, penicillin, chlortetracycline (aureomycin,) Tylan, as well as bacitracin.  I haven't used any of these since I haven't treated it.

Thank you eggcessive. This is my first time trying it. I am a
Ready using neomycin but I was waiting for bacitracin to come in. I have read giving both will work. I hope it foes other wise it am all out ideas for these two hens.

Here is a link from Poultry Pedia that I just came across:
BMD (Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate) Necrotic Enteritis 1/8 tsp per gal. water

What I did was take equal parts bacitricin and neomycin and mix them together dry in a jar. I'd use 1 tsp of that mixture per gallon of water for 7-10 days. I go by the rule that if I don't see improvement in 3 days of treatment, it is time to change treatment.

BMD or Neomycin 325 is 1 tsp per gallon of water. BMD alone is dosed for 9-12 days. Neomycin by itself is done for 3-5 days.

Thank you. This is day 4 with just the neomycin, there is some improvement, but not much. I just received the BMD today. I did 1/2tsp for a gallon, so I should go to 1tsp? So BMD is used for 9-12 days?

Have you dealt with enteritis? How long did it take for your birds to improve?? I am getting so discouraged that they arnt getting better.

Yes, with the powder. I should have been more specific since neomycin exists in an oral solution. Bacitricin and neomycin have both been in use for many years, and am not sure either would have the efficacy they once had. Eggcessive mentioned Chlortetracycline and Amoxicillin, which are both effective against E. coli. Are you sure it is a bacterial infection? I have used both and the stools returned to normal within a week. Consider you could be dealing with Coccidiosis or intestinal worms if a vet hasn't diagnosed a stool sample a few times to determine it is bacterial.

@JensChickies , it might be helpful if you could list all the different drugs that you have tried so far. Would be best to include their weights, the amount of drug given and the number of days given.

Sure. I have given baytril- i can remember the dose....I will have to calculate it. X 5 days
Metronidazole for only one hen- 1/4 pill twice dailyx 14 days
Neomycin- 3.5lbs= 0.1mL and 4.6lbs=1.3mL- I don't dilute it, I just give it to them once a day x5 days
Bacitracin- 400mg/g so 1/2 tsp per gallon...and I just started that last night..I guess I will go 7 days on this drug.

I am not sure that it's bacterial....that it just the best guess I can make. I don't have the money to take them to a vet otherwise I would.
