I had Egyptians." I am the mother, you are the goose" has to be firmly in your head.Pound for pound, they sure are strong little boogers. Beautiful, but more argumentative than even me !He is a hand raised bird and his owner spends a lot of time with him. He beat my goose (mine was res Champ Goose) and she is not nearly as friendly as he is. Actually she doesn't like anyone.....ahahahaha...........those two geese trade off getting all the hardware. The male you were talking to is a sweetheart bird. A lot of times the bigger the bird, the nicer they are and the smaller they are ....they act like my Egyptian goose. She is calm on the cage, but don't even think about talking to her.....lol Egyptian geese are very deceiving. Many people mistake them for a duck or as small enough to handle easily. That old goose is only 4.5 pounds, but they are incredibly strong and can scare off a bird as big as a swan. Having a tiger by the tail is a good description of what it is like to pick one up. They are very pretty birds though and their behavior when left alone is pretty cool. I'm the alpha in my yards, so I have no problems in every day situations.
Walt
There was some nice Egyptians at the Newnan Show. Walt I say a Gray Pomeranian goose with Pink feet and Pink bills in the junior show area a bill color like the ones my grand father use to raise in the mid 1950s. All I have seen in the past is the ones with the Orange feet and bills. Not my kind of color for this breed I once wanted to breed them but the standard never got changed so I said for get it. Thats the color they have in Germany and what my Grand Father had. He told me when he was a boy way back when that was the Geese his father had in Germany. This Goose looked like his old birds in the 1950s a real H Goose.
I hope those birds produce some nice chicks for my friend Matt and his dad. They are extreme high quality for color and type. Sorry that there where not any others for me to take pictures of but most of the colors are kind of rare and not all that hot in Quality.
I hope some folks try this breed they are a great American Breed that needs some parents to raise them. But like so many breeds they are way down in popularity. You should see what people are buying on the row where people where selling there chickens. The more colors they have the weirder they look they want them. When it comes to Preservation not much interest.
Karen, apparently the English class at the Newnan show was located in a different building than where I was looking....I was told that they were in the building with all the OEGBs and I never even went in there so I'm of no help....sorry....bantams aren't my thing so we didn't even go look.Hi,
Were there any Lght Sussex at Newnan or Lake City?
Did they win anything?
Thanks,
Karen
