You'll also need to be aware that the older ones will do their best to keep the young ones from the food. Mine 'solve' this by eating later when the older ones are out of sight. I don't have that much space but do have a building back there that they like to hand around behind. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. So if you see the old ones keeping the babies from the food, don't worry. They'll work it out. Most say to put out multiple feeders by my experience showed me that you could put out 20 feeders for 10 birds and they'd still keep the young ones away for a time.

mine are same way sarah..lower order cockerals..they wait their turn pleanty for all..when you pick them up..they sure havnt skipped any meals..they are quite round..they work things out amongst their group..opposite with a breeding pen..if you give maybe a little scramble egg..the rooster doesnt get any..he pings it to the females..i try to throw benjamins egg way out to the middle of his pen so he will eat it...he doesnt..he carries it closer to the fence..then punts it to the hens..

Since marrying into a southern/Texas family (roots all over the south) I have learned much about the importance of heritage, people take the war between the states quite seriously to this day! Being a first generation myself, growing up in a culturally diverse big city, which also equals watered down culture, it was quite a learning curve to understand southern ladies especially

I'm sure we'd be just as foreign if you were to come here

I honestly hope you never have to ( L.A. = blah!)

A creep feeder built into the corner of my main run is the answer. The youngsters can get in, but not the fat girls. The babies know they can eat and drink in peace there.

It's all the same........ Kind of like a little tiny corner of California, except much more humid..and a lot more bugs.

Ken Cooke was one of the few judges who would read the Standard just before or while judging each breed.

NC and SC might as well be different countries. The only thing similar or close to the same is the name.

Thanks George !

Once you get out of the sand pit we both live in, you do not hit the WALL of humidity that we have here. Makes keeping the chooks cool a real trial. Misters are no good when the temps are over 100 and the humidity is 60%.Shade, and damp sand seem to be key, with plenty of moving air. My fans run 24/ 7 during the summer. They've been on for a month in the coops and runs. They keep the mosquitos at bay too. Kershaw County lost over 30,000 birds last year according to our state vet. None of mine.

so doing that vickie...this year i have them sperate from the big guys..its in the one pen..one white cockeral is king..the other knows his place when the king (actuell) moves off to the grass , the other moves in.. they will be getting their own pads pretty soon..

so sad that many birds were lost last year down there..up here we are overwhelmed with rain..it just doesnt quit..flooding all around us..birds all have dry huts so they are dry and comfy..but the younger ones had about enough of this rain bizness..came out in it anyway but didnt stay long..back in the dry hut..

The comparison still works. Northern CA is a bunch different from Southern CA And the Bay Area Ca is the third different area. Remember, CA takes the space of nearly all of the original 13 colonies.

There is a lot of diversity here.
