It is exciting to see serious interest taken in the Buff Rocks. When I was a young child, they are what put meat and eggs on our table. I remember one of my father's cockbirds. He was gigantic; it helps, of course, that I was very short ;-). They are my favorite buff bird. The effect of the golden buff with the yellow legs is striking.

Rocks have the right shape to produce. They possess strong length and breadth of back, depth of breast, i.e., the basic recipe for serious production. Rocks, Reds, Dorkings, Sussex, Faverolles, Anconas, Leghorns, Minorcas, Hamburgs, with respect to general weight and purpose aimed for, these birds exemplify in their Standard potential what makes for homesteading success.

I agree too and the bright red comb too its a combo of color that just catches my fancy a good deal.

Well.....hot weather last year, stormy weather this year! Just heard a huge "BOOM" and went outside to see this

Here are the girls checkin' out the mess

Narrowly missed ALL the coops....praise glory!

Used to be able to see the coops from here.....guess we'll have firewood for next year (trying to see the glass as half full)

What a mess, but no injuries, no birds hurt, just a big mess that can be cleaned up

We lost a few this year also - Glad you had no injuries- I lost a shed I keep my fuel in away from the house and about twenty feet of fence .
You get two wines tonight to sooth the nerves.

Welcome to the club ! We had a strike 6 weeks ago. Killed the internet modem,fried my printer, blew the irrigation control out of the pantry into the kitchen, charred, knocked out , and fried all the phone wires, and alarm system, and blew the pressure regulator off the well.Beyond that all the birds OK, and Mrs Lincoln enjoyed the play.......

Scott, holy heck! WHEW! THAT was a close one!

Glad all is okay, no injuries or worse! Now...the clean-up begins? Good luck...forunately, it seems like that sort of clean-up can take place between other jobs!

Thanks for sharing your family experience tidbit...it would be really cool to see some old photographs of these birds, if you happen to have any to share. (-;
I, too, think the overall coloration is striking to the eye--comb to legs. Beauty and Purpose like that of many of the 'old timey' breeds. Thus far they seem to also possess the relative calm, 'all biz' temperament like that of my XW Ringlets too.
