I was having a phone conversation with a teenager *cough* the other day and he started reminiscing about when he was a young. He just happened to ask what breed I was working on and I said the main one was Delawares. He then went into detail about how he used to have them when he was a youngster and how big they were. Also he made mention that when caponized they were even bigger. So from a young old white head we have it the Delaware did exist here in poor little old Arkansas back in its heydey. Just thought I would share that with all of you out there. Have a nice evening.

Billy- call that "teenager" back up and get every bit of info out of him you can!!! Those old breeders know lots of tricks about getting the color right, etc. Ask him where he got his stock, who he sold it to, does he know anyone with them now? Does he have any advice? Your "teen" is a find!!!

biomistake - sounds like a really grea conversation with the "teenager" - I agree w/joletabey - sounds like it would be most advantageous to get to know this person!

Regarding Jersey Giants - I have two lines, one from Bobbi Porto, the other from Maria Hall. Both indicated to me that their original stock came from Golda Miller, but they have since outbred with other lines. I've actually been searching for some really good black stock (I have B/B/S), and have a few feelers out there - I'm very pleased with my small breeder flock this year, but I really would love to have some known Golda Miller stock as well.

Thanks, Charlie V.!

Cubalaya - I started with Jerseys from Sandhill and they were not even close to SOP. I no longer have them...sold the flock as a nice layer flock long ago. Thanks, though!
