I think "hatching eggs" may give "certain USPS employees" something to play with....however, I get questioned about "Live embryos", like perhaps they think it is something from a DRs office or something like that.

Who knows, I could just be lucky so far. I have determined that different post offices have "different" routes of getting things mailed. A PO about 5 miles down the road does not go thru the main ATLANTA PO, so I use them instead. Seems to be quicker AND more gently handled

BTW - I have 15 or 16 Col Rock babies in the brooder (from 5 weeks old to day olds) and 5 more due next Wed

Hey...that's my box

I do put them large end up. I think the boxes stay mostly upright, so that keeps the air cell at the top.
I've gotten reports of really good hatch rates doing it this way...12/15 and 13/15. I do like the quilt batting as filler. It cushions but
has some "give" so the egg does not absorb every shock.

yes it is your box and I am bragging all up on you (did not mention your name tho-)

As a former letter carrier I feel I must speak up.. The postal workers I worked with would not intentionally damage any one's mail. The US Postal service handles HUGE volumes of mail and some damage will occur. We are mailing eggs!! People mail very heavy items also! In the shipping process, the heavier items can conceivably be shipped on top of the eggs. If you think about it, it is really amazing that ANYTHING makes it to its destination in one piece! Having defended myself and former co workers I will also say that there are idiots in every occupation and walks of life. Just package as best you can and hope for the best! Thanks for listening!

Yes I do love my Post Office, the people there are wonderful.
They always want to see photos of the chickens whose eggs are in the boxes and many have ordered chicks from me.
And I whole heartedly agree that there is a loose screw in every machine.
No never will I blame the USPS as a whole.
I worked in frieght before, and I know the lumpers and frieght handlers can drop, ot stack heavier boxes on top of delicate ones..but a boot kick mark ?
