I wrap mine in individual bubble wrap pouches like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/500-4X7-5-BUBBL...477?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53dfdf2015

They have adhesive strips to just pull off & seal the egg in. I don't like using "used" bubble wrap with hatching eggs...you just never know what have come in contact with the bubble wrap! Also, since these are pouches, if an egg should break in transit, any goo would be held in the pouch and not contaminate the rest of the eggs in the shipment.

I've been wondering about the whole "fat end up" thing. I used to ship fat end up, then did a few "test" shipments where I put the eggs in sideways, much like the picture that Chickielady posted. Hatch results have been very similar, so I'm unsure on that. I WILL say, though, that I had ONE customer ask me to please make sure I shipped them fat end up...the day after I sent the box to him (I'd sent him the delivery confirmation the day I mailed the box). He was ADAMANT that he'd have a poor hatch. I sent him I believe 14 eggs and he had 10 to hatch. He never got back to me on hatch results, I had to e-mail him....twice...to find out. I may experiment with this, or just get some foam shippers from Cheryl!

A friend just had eggs shipped in some of those foam shippers, and all but 1 were scrambled so badly the air cells went round and round...so sad!
I really do believe that with nasty handling, eggs are not necessarily going to be cracked, but may be addled to the point where air cells can be totally torn loose no matter how we pack them.
I honestly feel that if you write "Fragile" or worse "Hathcing Eggs" that many cruel postal workers will go out of their way to drop kick or basketball practice with a box of eggs.
I wish we coould get a research project on it to trace how badly these boxes are handled.
I have had everything shipped, daily, and nothing has ever been so much as crushed or dented...except eggs.
The boxes have had to be run over by a forklift to be crushed so badly.
I tried to crush the same boxes and could not do it.
I ship and ask to be shipped, eggs unmarked as either "fragile" or "hatching eggs" and so far the boxes have arrived less beat up.
I think the sudden slams, as if the box is thrown, are the worst for ripping loose air cells.

I completely agree. I just put "this end up" stickers on each side of the box.

I actually had one box shipped to me that you could literally see the outline of a shoe (or boot!) where someone had stomped on it. But, I do have to say that overall, it's a rarity when I receive a mashed box of hatching eggs. Just my experience, though!

I guess this discussion should really move to another link, if people want to continue talking about it...What we know is that we can't control the post office or fedex (which is the way I ship eggs) but in my experience, eggs do not break in the foam mailers.

I'm kinda like Wynette, I mark the box "this end up" then attach a label that says "fragile LIVE Embryos"......I have gotten the strangest looks from postal workers, LOL

I regularly have folks who have gotten 80% + hatches from eggs I have mailed.....I even have 1, 100% hatch.

So Scott, you haven't had issues with postal workers beating up boxes? I never put anything about hatching eggs or embryos...for fear they'll look at that as a challenge.

Seriously Wynette you had a boot print on a box ??
That is proof enough to me that they go after the eggs on purpose.
I agree, they take it as a challenge.
Darn it.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it! I showed it to several folks who were shocked, as well. But, I really haven't had many issues with USPS truth be told. I think they do a great job (overall!)
