A friend just had eggs shipped in some of those foam shippers, and all but 1 were scrambled so badly the air cells went round and round...so sad!
I really do believe that with nasty handling, eggs are not necessarily going to be cracked, but may be addled to the point where air cells can be totally torn loose no matter how we pack them.
I honestly feel that if you write "Fragile" or worse "Hathcing Eggs" that many cruel postal workers will go out of their way to drop kick or basketball practice with a box of eggs.
I wish we coould get a research project on it to trace how badly these boxes are handled.
I have had everything shipped, daily, and nothing has ever been so much as crushed or dented...except eggs.
The boxes have had to be run over by a forklift to be crushed so badly.
I tried to crush the same boxes and could not do it.
I ship and ask to be shipped, eggs unmarked as either "fragile" or "hatching eggs" and so far the boxes have arrived less beat up.
I think the sudden slams, as if the box is thrown, are the worst for ripping loose air cells.
I guess this discussion should really move to another link, if people want to continue talking about it...What we know is that we can't control the post office or fedex (which is the way I ship eggs) but in my experience, eggs do not break in the foam mailers.
