Bob,
Have you ever herd of Cory Simmons in Ohio that raised White Rocks.

I have a friend that has a breeding pen of them and I have to say they are some of the biggest White Rocks I have seen and layed my hands on there some real nice birds...

The name rings a bell but at this time I can not put my finger on it. Do you know where he got his start of White Rocks? Do you have any pictures of them? Watch out my wife kicked me off the big computer and I am on the lap top with the tricky key board. Made me think of President Nixon. Remember why? bob

I don't know where Cory Simmons birds are originally from but, Cory did say that it was his dad line and his dad was breeding them for some time.
If I had to guess I would say that Cory was around 45 - 50 years old at the time so the line that he had would have to be pretty old..

I will try to get pictures up on here soon...

Do any of yall know of some sort of association/club for Delawares? Or was it already mentioned and I missed it?

I am completely soaking up all this wonderful information yall are posting. This thread is terrific!!!

Makes me wish I could get started with our Heritage breeds now!!!

I do, actually, have some RIRs. I'm not sure if they're breeder stock, hatchery stock or what

I didn't ask when I bought them, had no clue to ask, actually. I also got two more hens, several weeks ago, who seem to have a better body type, though they're younger then the rest...

Could yall take a look at em, if I got some pictures posted in the next few days and critique em for me? I'd really appreciate that, and it'd help me get some "learnin" too

There is not a official one that I have ever found... here is one that someone started, but it seems like one of those abandoned sites - you know the type, last edited 1999 or something lol.

I'm really good at glancing past the obvious sometimes

So, I'm hoping there's some books out there

I can go get about Delawares, I'll hafta try searching for that!!! Even DH, who doesn't like white chickens, likes the Delawares

so we're both looking forward to getting started with em. Now, for time and patience

I've got 30 extras to grow out for the freezer, then we'll see about getting others

I'm still quite new to all this, but could someone tell me if Thai fighting cocks are considered to be heritage birds? The reason I'm asking is because these are not cross bred, and as such, they have remained the same throughout history.

Thanks for any advice

The best book about Dels is the SOP! LOL! HA! no. seriously.

I don't think there is a book just about JUST Dels. If there is, I want it! Plenty of chicken books, though. If you are like me, even if it looks like it's all basic info you probrably know already, you buy it anyways and read it cover to cover. I do. There is always something in the middle I didn't know... some old remedy or technique.

You might be able to find a magazine article or two on Dels. Keep me posted ifyou find some.

If I find any good books, I'll be sure and pass them along

We've also decided to go with Partridge Rocks and Barred Rocks. SO I'll be scouring for those breeds as well, though it seems theres many FINE BR's here at BYC, as evident by the postings in this thread
