I have a point to ponder with you all. I have a line of Barred Hollands that look better in the show cage, but they lay brown eggs. Now since the whole point of these birds was to have a dual purpose barred WHITE egg layer, to me they are just poorly colored small barred rocks. I mean really, isn't it the white egg that makes them the barred holland? I feel like I'm cheating to put them in a show and call them barred Hollands. What say you?

Cheating? I do not think so. You are trying to get them where they are supposed to be. It is not like there is a lot out there to choose from. You have to start somewhere, right? I hope that you are succesful with them.

Bob, I bought the Brahma's from Kim Aldrich. Re: the Wyandottes I got them at last November's Ohio National. 1 pullet came from Ron Patterson's son Jonathon. The other female is from Don Monke. I have been talking with both Don and Jonathon about getting additional males. I know I can get males from Jonathon this summer, so I will be good. I plan on 2 males so bases will be covered just in case. Bob I always enjoy reading your thoughts and insight. Thank you for the feedback lildinkem and Bob.

I think this is Bill Bowman line from Ohio. He had a very good line befor he died. bob

This thread has hit a snag it’s been pretty week lately. I guess we are all going to the feed stores and getting the chicks and to busy to make posts or everything is just wonderful in the rare breed department. I found this magazine on a web site that was very interesting. Many of the breeds we want today where plentiful back in this time. This may give you something today to look at.

Anyone get any new rare breeds of Heritage Nature lately? I am trying to get some Black Austroplops from a friend who has a friend who has got some killers on the west coast.
Going to swap some White Rock Large Fowl eggs for some of these Black Chickens for a friend.
Hope all your rare breeds are doing well. Bob

I've been hatching the heck out of my LF black wyandottes. Got almost 100 chicks to 'tweens in the growing pens to make the top ten for next season. It's been a spring for cockerels though. It's because I need the pullets of course.

Hi Bob.....
I'm working on my Delaware project. My F2s are nearing point of lay, and I have to choose which cockerel I am going to use first. I have a few I will use, but I have only 3 females, so it will be slow going.

Here is one of my F2s today. I know he is over the standard weight for Delawares, but I am gonna use him anyway. Building the barn......

We have been hatching dominiques. 16 this week and another 40 or so to hatch out over the next three weeks. Just hoping to get a couple good cockerels and maybe three pullets. Maybe everyone is just busy cleaning brooders and dealing with new chicks. I know we've been busy around here and everything is green and growing.

Bob,
I hatched some Columbian Rocks from ScottB they are 20 days old.
Also have over 40 RIR chicks and 15 more in the bator.
And hatched a few LF Dark Cornish they are 10 weeks and looking nice.

Well, we don't often get photos of heritage Mediterraneans on here so I thought these might be of interest. They weren't posing wonderfully, but I guess one can't always have it all.

PS: I have no idea how I got these photos side by side.
