Bob--anyone use show sheen? It puts a shine on horses with a polymer. Not sure of chicken show rules. It is a spray on. Might not be good for chickens as the preen and play with their feathers whereas a horse doesn't. ANyone try it?

Fred--handsome bird!

Ash andVine-- I was really shocked to see few LF at a big show. Mostly bantams. And a smattering of ducks, turkeys and geese. Disappointing. Folks were nice though. I have a SSH a handsome fellow that is quick on his feet and impossible to catch, unless he has gone to roost for the night.

Some people do use show sheen and it is not considered faking. I don't use anything on my birds.

Those are some really nice looking Brahma's
Hi grsday!
welcome-byc.gif

You couldn't have picked a nicer thread to start out with. So many nice people here , like all of BYC.
There are elite veteran breeder/judges who take a lot of ther personal time to answer our novice
and advanced questions. This is my fav discussion on BYC.
Best Regards,
Karen in western PA, USA

Well candled my Heritage RIR eggs. I'm hoping everything cont. on course. I got my eggs from Roslyn Pickens (Ryan, Autry, and Mohawk lines). I'm gonna breed back into mine, that has been in our family for 5 generations. I have a question for the forum, what were the lines that produced the pearl legs in the heritage RIR. My Grandfather had some when I was 5 or 6 years old almost 40 years ago?

I read this post and went back to the Hert.RIR thread to find it and it was'nt there. I forgot where I saw it. Anyway that would be my suggestion is to post it over there and you'll get a little more info there as it can get lost quickly here on this thread as it is not dedicated to just one main breed topic. You can give a little more info on your current older generation of stock and see if anyone has an idea on blending this other stock in to the mix or you know better suggestions anyway here's the thread addy:

Quote: This is a very good example of white wyandottes. True to breed and if you order some off the Internet they would never come close to this quality. May I ask how long have you had these nice birds and if not to long who was the strain from. Excellent examples of what a Wyandotte should look like. I saw today some of the best Dark Brahmas I have seen in twenty years out of Texas. I am so excited about them I am thinking of getting some from this breeder. This is a very rare breed and color and they are champion large fowl of the show material in my view.

Thanks for posting your pictures you have excellent birds and maybe others would love to have some of your birds. For you who live in the frigged cold climates these would be perfect birds as their combs will not freeze like single combs will. bob

Something I found out this past week. I have had issues like nothing else turning birds blue, purple and not getting stains out. I decided to try this other shampoo for horses. Designed to clean Palominos, paints, etc. and you can put it directly on the animal. It's called Rose Shampoo "White Magic". Seriously...I put it directly on my bird and used a toothbrush to brush the soap down into the feathers. I brushed it with the grain of the feather. Do not scrub. And do it a few days before the show so that they can preen back into the

So I tried it with my birds. I did it on a "junk" bird first to see if it would work. It did!

Here's before and after shots of my good Langshan bantam pullet:
