I feed my birds a whole seed/grain diet. My birds eat whole dent corn. I do not think you need to crack the corn. I hope to grow a lot of my grains next year so I can feed them grains still on the stalks. Good foraging!

I have found a 22% feed that uses PORK as the protein. LOVE the stuff. They have everything you can need for chickens and other livestock. I don't know that it is available up north but you could call them and find out. Tuckers is the name of the feed they have a website

I don't work for them

I use the same feed manufacturer. Typically feed the 16% layer pellet with very good success. They are one of the few that continues to include animal protein. During growing season I use their gamebird starter/grower and/or a combination of the 16% and the 22% layer

I'm not sure how complicated an answer I am seeking. Kinda trying to pull all this info together into some kind of working solution. Most Americans like a yellow-skinned bird and enjoy adding corn, marigolds and other feeds which turn the skin and egg yolk more yellow. However, my Light Sussex are white-skinned. Plus they are a Columbian breed which historical and antecdotal evidence says that feeding these "Yellow" causing ingredients can cause the white to get a yellow cast. Breed history says Sussex do very well on oats, barley and wheat. Ok, so I can use them. Would rather not use soy as an ingredient. In the winter, a lot of folk give their birds corn as it makes the birds blood run hot. (metabolism rises to enable digestion of corn). Is there a "white" ingredient which will do what corn does and help keep the birds warm in winter and not have any "yellowing" effects?

( Can't find a commerical feed without corn)
There are a few feed mfg's that add marigold to there feed to composite for the use of a corn that is low in β-Carotene I my self never used a feed with it in there but I believe if the corn is rich in β-Carotene then there is no need for the marigold. Brassiness that some white bird can get in the plumage has more to do with the genetics that make up the fowl than feed. If a white fowl carries gold in it back ground then it is most likely going to show Brassiness when feed a feed high in β-Carotene or if there on in the sun.
Corn feed in the winter burns off way to fast to make any fowls blood run hot, Corn is a easily and highly digestible feedstuff.

If you feel the need, Pop Corn can replace most of your yellow corn.

Now with that said I feed a mix of Game Bird feed (one with animal proteins and fats), floating fish pellet and a grain mix.
I feed this mix to all my birds including the ones that are white and columbian.

Subject: White Rocks

Per chance, is anyone known to be taking White Rocks to the up coming Ohio National? I shall have a very special spy who will be looking for me.

T'would not make me sad should she be able to procure a nice trio, perhaps.
Tim Bowls, Dick Horstman and Jack Tickle all have been known to bring White Rocks to Ohio Nationals.

Jacks a good guy,
He runs to a lot of shows. I'v known him (along with Tim and Dick) for going on 12 years now and cant say I had a bad thing t say about any of them.
Busy is a understatement, that guy is all over the U.S., I know that he has Sheep, Cattle and few other odd and end animals but cant recall if he shows any of them anymore.

OK, so after 100 tries, for some reason my other, clearer, closer up picture of "Butch" (What a name, that's another story), won't upload. So we're working with a picture that I don't think is the best. Will try again one more time...

Body shape appears to be pretty good. He's long in the back with the proper slope from head to tail. Also, at only 7 months he has a pretty good face. It takes awhile for them to get the full white face. The biggest concern I see is his tail angle. The tail should be 40 degrees above horizontal & his is much higher than that. In fact he's nearly "squirrel tailed". The shape of his comb leaves a lot to be desired.
