Hi,
Speaking of feeding. Do your show birds get raised on special secret diets like some dog breeders use for their dogs? Or can one raise a show bird on a commerical feed?Or perhaps ya'll use 1/2 and 1/2? Like commercial with some add-ins? I have been trying to figure this out for months and am just lost, drowning in ingredients and ratios. It us much more dificult to understand than dog nutrition. Do certain breeds have special needs? Or is" poultry is poultry is poultry"?
Thanks so much!

Hi Walt,I feed off the shelf pellets. The only change is occasional hen scratch. I'm one of those who believes the shine is in the genes.....or not.

Karen,Hi Walt,
Do poultry pellets need to be picked with the same care as dog kibble? Closeley watching ratios and ingredients? Is there a list of Premier poultry pellets vs "grocery store" brands? Are there any ingredients which are "no-no's" and those "preferred"? Dog folk have databases online which compare grades and ingredients of brands of kibble. Is there anything like this for poultry?
Thanks so much for your help!

Give me a couple of these and I will make them famous............hahahahaha

I would love to see Walt get some of these.
Quote: I must of sniffed some bad stuff when I wrote this. Walt uses good feed. you cant beleive every thing I type on here I some time think I have Turetts Syndrom of the key board. Sometimes I get upset over things and get cranky. Saw a very nice New Hampshire Pullet last night correct color, great type. Saw a huge R I Red large fowl ckl pure Illinois strain. Biggest large fowl Red I ever handled. He must have been ten inches across in the back and his lenth from his hackle to his oil gland ten inches. I think he was about 27 inchs tall and that long in lenth. He looked like the old Mohawk V picture but just a bigger bird, more lenth of body a perfect tail. Just a dream chicken. Also, saw some good half and half reds. Would love to mait this male to two half and half orphen pullets that I got and see what happens. Lots of pretty yellow buff orpingtons also coming on.
