Here is the New Hamp pullet.

The lighting sucked, so you can't see the real color of this bird. 7 months old and laying eggs.

Walt

I posted this over to the GNH thread and I'm gonna post it here too LOL

Oh yes she is a fine specimen of the breed for sure. As Walt mentioned over in the Heritage thread the lighting makes all the difference. I know this for a fact not that the pic is bad or she looks bad. Pictures DON'T do them justice and show what they really look like. I can imagine it myself that this girl is a knockout, and shes got the medals(ribbons) to back it up.

I have (along with a few others on this thread too) have the pleasure daily of looking at some of these birds one on one. I know what they really look like for real in living color. They are some of the most awesome looking birds you'll ever lay your eyes on. Even mine and they aren't kept up in a special little pen with froo froos and bells hanging from the rafters they are out with everday layers in the dirt and poop and crap right along with rest, and when you walk in, or anybody that's been here, the attention is drawn right towards them every time and the are clannish too (mine are actually finally learning to get out and free range some too) and its just a sight to behold.

Mrs. Kathy posted up a picture comparison the other day of a NH cockerel in two different frames in different lighting conditions and you could see a much difference in the colors this changes.

This what is meant by the lighting in the room not doing the pullet justice for those who don't know the whole deal J/S

I was taling to a fellow last night and he told me the fellow who got these orange chickens into the USA does not have them anymore. However, look how they have spread from Kentucky to all over the USA.

Its remarkable how this happened.

Charlie I drank some shine, watered my plants in the woods and put my Red Chickens back into the pen. I will get over it.

Going to Matt 1616 house tonight to help him with his Red Bantam project with his son.

Might look at a few Orange chickens when I am there. If there is enough light I will take a picture.

He also has some nice half and half R I Reds there that turned out real nice. Thats half Illinois and half Floridia Strains of mine for you folks North of Memphis.

Charlie did you see Mr. Ryan in Minn about those Partridge Plymouth Rocks? bob

Hi,
Speaking of feeding. Do your show birds get raised on special secret diets like some dog breeders use for their dogs? Or can one raise a show bird on a commerical feed?Or perhaps ya'll use 1/2 and 1/2? Like commercial with some add-ins? I have been trying to figure this out for months and am just lost, drowning in ingredients and ratios. It is much more dificult to understand than dog nutrition. Do certain breeds have special needs? Or is" poultry is poultry is poultry"?
Thanks so much!
Karen in soggy western PA ( eye passed over us earlier this afternoon and it was quiet for a while, now getting the backside of Sandy now, snowing).

Walt uses scratch with cod liver oil on Monday Wed and Friday and Wheat Germ Oil the others days. On Sunday he gives them Holy Water from Capistrano Missions where the swallows come from.

For me I give them Turkey feed 36% protein. With a little shine mash on top for flavor.

Dont tell any one. Its a secret.

Those white chickens are they White Rocks from Murry McMurry?
