I can hardly wait to hear these results...... and see all the pictures!
I'll get pictures next weekend at the Nebraska show.

Anyone else have show results and pictures?

yes I know, I'm anxious as well about those NH pullets and the rest too but I'm sure Walt will post up on here after he takes his beauty rest. He's probly a little tired and worn out from the trips and the show. He's no spring chicken anymore, he's and old rooster and it takes him a little while longer to get down off the roost pole in the mornings.

Anyway I want to congratulate my home state boy(ChrisH) and baby girl for the good job and representation of we BYCers at the Baton Rouge state fair yesterday (which he's being a little modest in calling it small) It is not small by any means Chris,LOL the Leesville(Vernon parish) and Many(Sabine parish) fairs, now those are small ones LOL Baton Rouge is the second largest city in the state. Well I think it and Shreveport are neck in neck anyway both of their State Fairs are by no means small ones. Anyhow folk come from many of the surrounding states to them, so he was (in the thick) of what is available for showing for many a mile(hundreds) around. They "done good"

Great win. Did the Cochin LF Come form Lafayette Area? bob
Not sure Bob. It was a lady and her son that had the bird and so I went over and congratulated them on their win. While we were all talking and taking pics I turned around for a sec and they had gone. I didn't really get to talk to them much. It was funny however watching the Judge go back and forth, he was defiantly having a hard time with his decision. I talked to him afterwords and he had a lot of nice things to say about all the birds we showed. The only thing he didn't like about the BR Cockerel I had was it's size.

At the last minute I switched what bird I was going to take with me. My older Cockerel is nice all the way around but really lacking in the tail. The Cockerel that I brought to show is also nice and showing real promise with it's tail but is much younger and smaller. Hind sight I should have brought them both but we had fun regardless. Maybe in another month my little BR will get a little more size or the other one will find his tail but one or the other will hopefully be making the trip to FL on Dec 8th.

The RIR got first, best of breed and champion Cockerel. He was in the running for over all Champion but after about 20 minutes of going back and forth the Judge gave it to a Cochin LF.

Hey Chris I'm still just as happy as pig in a puddle for you and Payton on the win, and too hearing that Walt (fowlman01)did super(best American) at Ventura with the GNH pullet too.

anyway I'd like to say too that you should feel proud to about almost getting the over all Champion. I'd say at least you runner-uped to a bird of good stature in the Poultry world. Cochins are a fore-bearer of many of the breeds that make up our American class of Chickens, and too, you got right up beside it with a cockerel too. A pretty good feat right there. I remember Walt saying before; if an older bird and a younger bird are tie-tied in a dead heat then the win should go to the older bird. I'm sure this is for ethic reasons as the young bird is more likely capable of winning on down the road as the older bird's days are numbered less to be here for as many shows. So, if the judge went back and forth over and over, you were close to being just as good as the Cochin cock bird, the way I see it.

and too you got bested by a chicken and not a Furbie or a buzzard too LOL

Any one going to a poultry show this weekend? There are many all over the country. If you do take pictures of some of the rare breeds for us. Get the names of the owners for us.

There is one big one in Minn , Calif that I know of. Walt of course is at the Calif show and Charlie called me last night at the Minn Show.

If anyone is a member of the American Bantam Assc. there is a excellent article on Fertility in the Fall newsletter. One of the best I have read in years.

I am putting together a new method of line breeding and using birds for up to four years. This opens my eyes on my older birds if this will work or not or I should use older females rater than older males. Have a great Saturday.

Not to make you feel bad Bob, but I took one of kathyinmo's New Hamps I got a while back to the Ventura CA show this weekend and beat up some very nice RIR's with one of these New Hamp Reds. One of the two pullets I entered was Champion American. Will post pics later. This is the first Champ American (Class Champion) I have seen a New Hampshire win in many, many years.

Good job Kathy!

Hey! I'm still up partying here (it's 2 a.m here now) after driving 1000 miles round trip and showing 44 birds. I'll be up at 5 and thinking about those poor RIR owners that had to go home with no hardware cuz a 7 month old NH cleaned their clock. ahahahaha.

Off to jog 5 miles before I retire for the night. Back with pictures when you guys finally wake up. Roost pole....hah! More like the pole dance for this old timer. these young uns don't know how to enjoy a poultry show the old fashioned way.

Walt

Wow that is great and it has been a while at a major show. They are good looking birds have a good ride home and give that pullet a big hug for us. bob Poor red breeders. bob
