The rooster pictured has a single comb. A large single comb. Dominiques, though a single comb can occur, are Rose combed birds. That's the major obvious sign. Feather coloring is a little dark for a Dominique rooster. Can't tell the back shape but the tail doesn't look like a Dom either.Okay, might I ask how do you tell the difference? So does that mean he's a barred rock?
I do know the woman who brought them to the farm also had araucana's, there was a roo squished into the cat carrier with himThe muddy coloration and the single comb tells me he's mostly Barred Rock, but not well bred. There's other "stuff" in him. Not to confuse the issue, but he looks to be Black Sex Link bred back, or similar. We've done that so the look is very familiar to me.
Not saying that's what he is, but that's the kind of look one gets when a bird is mostly Barred Rock, but has some other things mixed in.

Thanks! I just need him to help keep my two girls warm, they are so small i'm worried they won't have enough body heat between the two of them to keep warm this winter. Also to watch over them and help with ticks.Yeah I have a BR rooster straight from the hatchery, he is one of Ideals finest (<note the irony here)LOL anyway he looks exactly like the male posted there. I know he's not a pure BR boy, but he don't and he makes me some of the "most awesomest" egg-laying barred pullets you ever saw. I call them my production Cuckoos. He will more than likely serve your purpose well ChicksnHerps.![]()

Quote: I can hardly wait to hear these results...... and see all the pictures!
I'll get pictures next weekend at the Nebraska show.
Anyone else have show results and pictures?
We went to our very first show yesterday and brought just three birds. A Rhode Island Red Cockerel, a Barred Rock Cockerel and a New Hampshire Roo. This was just a small show at a State Fair in Baton Rouge but we did pretty good and had some fun.I can hardly wait to hear these results...... and see all the pictures!

The RIR got first, best of breed and champion Cockerel. He was in the running for over all Champion but after about 20 minutes of going back and forth the Judge gave it to a Cochin LF.
The BR got a second and lost out to a Pullet I sold to a friend about a month ago.
The NH also won first place and best of breed.
Here is a pic of the red I took with my phone,,,
