There are no points deducted for 1 pound off but a 2 point deduction for each pound after.

I don't know, politics has something to do with it. logistics of weighing all the birds at a show. And as much as I hate to say it some judges just don't care. I know of one judge, who will remain nameless, that judged our gray runners at the Ohio Nationals one year, admits he picks dark billed females because that is his preference, even though the SOP calls for an orange bill. Now not everyone is like that but there are just those few.

Not sure what's political about it? Logistics are a factor- it would be a time consuming process. I think that weighing birds would need to be made part of the show rules if you wanted to routinely weigh all the birds in a show. Bring it up at the next APA National meeting. See if you can get it adopted. Wouldn't bother me, I already weigh my birds. Had a judge pass over my BB Red pullet when picking Champion American-said she was too small-she weighed 5lbs 2oz: 2 oz onder standard weight.

Leave it to someone to make it political eventually. I'd get shot for bringing that up. look at the discussion on this thread imagine the whole exhibition poultry world!! it's a good idea though, some people like you would be ok with it. I think its great for a breeder to be confident enough to weigh their birds in public. Some of the "point chasers" as they are called, may not be happy with it. No offense to anyone who is a "point chaser", nothing wrong with noteriety.

If I remember correctly you will only get docked 2 point on most breeds before you are DQ'ed for being 20% over weight.

Yeah that is true, I guess that applies more to geese and turkeys that have much heavier weights.

Shoot a bird that has a standard weight of 5 pounds has a fudge factor of one pound either way then is DQ'ed [ no points deducted ]

That's a very noble idea. Why don't the judges subscribe to it ? They ARE representatives of the APA at that show .

Judges are representatives of the ABA/APA, but they don't run the shows and neither does the ABA/APA. The ABA and APA have their rules, but the show committee makes up the rest and bulk of the rules at a poultry show.

under the cutting for defects it says birds with weights of cock 6lbs, cockerel 5lbs, hen 4.5, and pullet 4, or weights below these:
1. Males--two points for first pound and two points for each one-half pound thereafter.*
2. females--one point for each quarter pound under weight.*
*until disqualifying weight is reached.
That is for underweight

For overweight
it says no point for first pound then two points for every pound thereafter

So a bird with a weight of six pounds can weigh as little as 4.8 or as much as 7.2 pounds and not be DQ'd. But the point cuts don't really make sense for cutting for each half pound over one pound, becasue after 1.2 pounds it would be a DQ and no points would have to be cut.
females make sense though.
