I'm not sure what exactly you mean by the point system, but the schedule of points that is listed in the Standards is indeed still used by a lot of judges today.
I watched a judging of Serama's at the Newnan, Ga show 2012.
They were using the point system there. The cards were posted with how many points the birds earned.
There were like 5 catergories that each bird was scored in and then the points were totaled. Highest total point won the catergory.
This style of judging is different from the APA style judging that I see for large fowl. In those cases, the judge places birds by comparing one to other..
In the previous judging with a score card, each bird is evaluated on an individual basis and is competeing against itself. In the previous judging, a breeder walks away with the knowledge of where its bird was weak and where it showed strong. The other system of judging, the system we see most often, gives the bird 100 points and starts deducting for faults. The downside of this system is that the breeder walks away with no idea how good their bird really is. A bird could win, being best of the 15 birds in the catergory, yet be full of faults - just not as full as the other 14 birds LOL... With the score card that I saw being used with the Seramas, the breeder KNEW how much he beat the competition by AND he knew where the bird was judged weak.
I, too, would love to see the score card make a come back. It just seems much more informative to the breeder.
