UV stabilized bird netting will practically NEVER rot under ground. Wire will. I use the netting folded double, then buried, under the runs.

Regular bird netting is easy for racoons to tear. Heavy weight Gamebird netting is another matter.Good suggestion! I was responding to the burrowing talent of the gopher. It is astounding.
ETA: Is the same bird netting sufficient for covering a run? Maybe the better way to ask is, has anyone who has used it this way found birds of prey attempting/succeeding at breaking through it to get to the chickens inside?
