OK if its Texting I am all thumbs i have no idea i cant even use a cell phone due to the Shrapnel in my head .
Anyway sometimes when i say something it gets lost i was very proud of that little one in the photo and a little envious too it took me 12 yrs in my 20s befor i could butcher and I still cant kill anything

She deserves a medal. No spell checker since i used it and it said Balling was OK LMAO grins i feel good here as i do not mind getting a little razzing now and then its good for the soul.

Thats OK I see a lot of "distinguished" folk including the honorable judge on here that can't spell worth a hooey too or phrase a sentence correctly, I myself included. Thank goodness for spell check and the little pencil at the bottom of the editor. I've known a lot of folk that couldn't read too good or at all much less spell(just barely their name usually) but most could count as add/figure $$$$ MONEY though. Raised up some fairly nice kids and chickens too.

Apparently some people thought I was serious about this-guess I should have added a smiley face. People on this site are forever insisting that a "good roo" will fight off preditors attacking the flock. This is, of course, ridiculous. The "good roo" that tries will just be the first chicken eaten.

I'm pretty sure this was to be predator here as this was the topic of the conversation at that time.

Quite a bit of difference between a preditor and a predator at least I hope so for most of humanities sake.

We're all human on here I think and allowed mistakes, they haven't cloned the perfect human being yet.

Jeff good day

Don't always spell check when I should. The balling/bawling thing is still funny though. Let me help you out-it was a joke. I'll try to remember to add a note stating that from now on so you won't have to get your knickers in a twist.

Yes, this was a home grown Cornish cross raised by a neighbor. I don't know how old it was. Don't Cornish cross grow at a steady pace? So they reach 3 lbs. at about the same age? I don't know when that is.
Best,
Karen

I think it's about 5 days or so. Actually, it's about 6 weeks which is almost as unbelievable.

So, what's the skinny on pasty butts? I have two different heritage breeds hatched a day apart from two different sources. Both experienced the stress of shipping and have been brooded together with the same conditions, food, etc. One of the breeds is constantly having some issues with pasty butts, the other breed...not a single one.

Is this genetic or something in the gut flora that could have come from something else?

I don't know what the cause would be but if you feed fermented feed, you won't have the problem. A quick fix would be to mix some plain, unsweetened yogurt into their starter feed for a few days. Just remember not to make it too wet because it gets sticky and they don't seem to like that very much. Just stir some in and let it sit for about 15 minutes; it should absorb all the excess moisture, and then serve.

I notice they get pasty butt when stressed. So shipping, too hot and too cold can cause it. I put organic ACV in the waterer and it seems to help. I haven't noticed it by breed, though some breeds seem more hardy than others.
